Hi guys,

I wanted to give LED lighting a try, and have bought a second hand Impossibled on eBay. Ive been caught out before when buying second hand things I am unfamilier with, and ended up having to pay a lot to get them repaired etc.

I will hopfully be picking it up tonight, but when I collect it is there anything I should check before I pay? It is sold as "good working order", but what can I check to make sure it is working? When it is plugged in, what should an Impossibled do if it is working properly?

I know I sound a bit paranoid, but the last thing I bought second hand was a active sub that cost me over £100 to get fixed before it was usable!

Thanks in advance,
Mark

There is not a lot to look at with a lot of led fixtures, no moving gobos etc so just make sure it works ful stop. Also check that the iec/dmx connectors are sturdy as they are cheaply made.

If you use paypal then at least you are protected if there is an issue.

I'd check all the patterns are working rather than it being stuck in just one - you may have to check what the settings is on the back (check the manual online to see what the options are).
Make sure the sound to light is working.
If the owner is agreeable remove the cover and front lens and check all the LEDS are working.
Check the IEC in and out is working....and that's about it I think..

Thanks guys, that is really useful.

Am I right in thinking the unit should flash 3 times when turned on?

Also, does it have an internal fan? Should I hear this working?

Thanks,

Mark

Just to let you know I picked up the Imossibled and it is fine - lovely condtion, and the seller was great too. It was fitted in a home games room, and never moved from new, so there are no marks or scratches etc.

All I need to do now is find out how to set it up - which programme is best? Does programme 0 run through all the programmes?

Thanks again, Mark.

Did it come with a manual at all? That should give you some information on setup (although most manuals are pretty dire I've found!)

Hi David,

Yes, it did come with a manual and after reading through it carefully it looks fairly straight forward! I think the only choice you have to make is what "programme" you want to run, which I guess is down to personal preference. Does anyone have any recomendation which programme is best?

I have a gig on Saturday on Wales, and I am planning to take just my uplighters and the Impossibled to see how it performs!

I am now on the lookout for another Impossibled to make a pair - one to aim up, and one to aim down.
Cheers,

Mark

I just let mine scroll through all the programmes - I also use a CA-8 controller to turn it on and off and strobe it.

Thanks Funkymook,

How do you let is scroll through all the programmes? Does it do that on "show 0", or do you manually change the programme throughout the night?

Cheers, Mark.

Show 0 will scroll through all the programmes - I usually DMX link them as Master/Slave so the patterns on both match - I do use the controller sometimes to fix it on a less busy pattern when appropiate.
