Eeeek, my advice - Anything BUT Kam wallbash.gif .

Any CD Player fitted with an Anti Shock Buffer, will stop that annoying skip on bouncy floors. A lot depends on the features you require?. Do you do a lot of mixing?, or do you just want a CD Player which will play CD's for the average family function?.

Gadgets and gizmo's and flashing Buttons come at a price, however there are a lot of up and coming brands with similar features for around 50% of the price of the named brands.

Gemini Products carry a 3 year warranty, Denon and Pioneer have the features, but cost a small fortune, Numark gets various opinions - equally good and bad. Soundlab, Skytec, American DJ, Citronic - All have the budget end of the market, with fewer features, but can last just as long as the top end brands in everyday D.J use and have a more D.J Friendly price tag. Skytec even have the slot loading CD Players now as seen on some Pioneers!, but £400 cheaper and no tray mechanism to wear out. rolleyes.gif

So what features are you looking for? , and what budget?.

smile.gif ok chris i have a kam 800.
so i want to have all the features that the kam has .
i dont think it has a jog buffer does it?
3-400 quid is my budget.

Well, you don't wan't ALL of the features that the Kam has scared.gif , at least not the requirement for regular attention from engineers!.

If you can add a few quid to your £400 budget then the Gemini 3000 and Denon DN-D4000 are both good quality machines. In my opinion the Denon 4000 is more suited to the Mobile DJ without the added gimmicks that the 9000 has - gimmicks which cost around £450 more!.

In the budget range, £300 opens up all sorts of possibilities, even £200 will get you a reasonable machine these days. Don't be put off by the budget range, if playing CD's and Anti-Shock is all that you require. I sell around 5x £300 models to every 2x £800 ones, and in the last few months I have had more warranty returns from the High End area of the market than the often frowned upon budget range whistling.gif.

Even the budget end of the market are adding many features to their players. Below is the New Skytec TEC2750.

user posted image

As you can see, loads of features. Slot loading mechanism's similar to the Pioneer Range, Anti-shock memory etc. And the price? - £279.00 scared.gif .

Some D.J's can often slate the budget end of the market, without ever having owned one!. I use a mid price range Stageline, and for obvious reasons the ones I hire out are all cheap soundlab models. Neither types have ever let me down or required anything more than a laser lens clean. Like I said on another thread more expensive doesn't automatically mean more reliable.

I can promote to you Denon / Pioneer / Skytec / Soundlab / Citronic / Gemini since I sell them all, and technically, at my mark up, I make the same level of profit on each model so I have nothing to gain by trying to flog you a more expensive model based on its theoretical (and to me, mythical) better level of reliability or by being biased in any way. I don't retail Stageline, but can also recommend their mid range priced products.

Thats a intereting reply Chris
I'm slightly in limbo here as to why Gemini offer a 3 yr warranty or is there a catch
as all warranties do, is their warranty as good as a garanttee.

Thanks in advance
(I might yet swing away from Pioneer or Denon)

If a company, such as Gemini, offer a 3 year warranty then it tells me something... they are confident in the durability of their products, and therefore I would be buying with the confidence that I am not going to have many problems.

Yes, they have a 3 year warranty... but I had a Gemini CDX-602 and the first unit stopped working on one side.

It was sent away for repair... a replacement model was sent back because Gemini did not have the parts in their service department <yeah, that made me laugh!>.

The replacement unit came to me and the right deck would not open.

Gemini sent a 'brand new unit' from stock that had only just been delivered.

A few weeks later and the unit had intermittant problems reading any CD.

Not long later the replacement unit packed up on the left side.

Replacement unit sent back to Gemini.

Got the unit back and the left side would worked! <hurrah>

While still in the shop I bought it from, I failed to check the working side... you wouldn't expect me to have a problem with it because it went back to Gemini and it was working... <ahem> got home and the right side would not read any CDs!

Spoke to Gemini directly, again, and the service guy spoke to someone higher in the company and my dealer was offered a full refund and I then had to go back and get a new dual CD-player.

In the end, the unit is only a backup system, so I got a Numark CDN22 Mk III.

BUT - for some reason this unit is opening the CD draw and then closing straight away. This seems to be happening with both sides.

It could be that I'm just plagued with problems :-)

Stand squarely in front of the player in your normal playing position,

TAKE ONE PACE BACK

Problem sorted (If the drawer does'nt touch your belly when it opens it will stay open) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or in CP's case two or three steps !!

If your going to be mixing get one with Instant Start and maybe a loop feature.

Numark & Gemeni are good.

I wish it was that easy... seems to close the draw straight away, even if I move back and am not touching the unit. For some reason I think the draws are too sensitive because even gently placing a CD on them can cause the draw to close.

Hmmm... just my luck... get a bad batch of Gemini's and the Numark unit now plays up <grrrr>

As the advice is rolling in, I'm looking to retire my old Gemini CD240 with another twin player, or even 2 singles. I'm looking to get seamless loop this time. I want to try and keep it under £400.

Thanks
Gary
Seamless loop is a really usefull tool, the more loops, the better.

When looking at cd~decks with seamless looping, try to find those which will allow you to adjust the "A point"(start) and "B point"(end) of the loop, whilst the loop is actually still playing out "live" to the audience, rather than those decks which only let you "loop adjust" from the "pause" mode.

Also, units which offer "memo points" will enable you to store your A points & B points for automatic recall next time you insert a previously looped track.

Sin you are priceless..... Are you Sindoctor two bellies and crispy cp five bellies! As for myself, being a short ar$e.... I have to take two steps back... but not because of my belly!!!

i recomend the citronic cd, budget but very good kam are not so good (dont tell anyone i have a kam mixer will you scared.gif

as for the seemless loops very few cdplayers in that budget do that, we are used to denon dn-s5000's and it comes natural to us!
