I'm thinking about getting a smaller+lighter flightcase for my DDS80+Mixer system.
The current case is a SwanFlight 342 console case. Nicely made but has a few problems;
-It peaks above my deckstand
-Its heavy (ok..the kit is also heavy..lol)
-Its bulky

I recently purchased a cheap Citronic SDHC playback system as a backup. I've mounted this in an American Audio mixer case;

..And its a nice little system, not too heavy.. (simply power in, XLR out..)

I'm looking for something "off-the-shelf" that will take the 2U drive bay of the DDS at the front, and then allow the mixer+DDS control unit on the slopped top.

Ideally lightweight (not sure if I'd want ABS thou?), and about £100-£150 mark.

Any suggestions?

Getting a lightweight case is going to be a bit of an issue Jason as depending on the total U requirements for the mixer and dds control panel you may need 4 u at the front, 2 for the cd player and 2 for a blank panel so the mixer/controller clears the cd unit, Making it a heavy case.

My local store (as above) stocks a fair amount of cases and i was having a look at some the other day. I was surprised about the actual size and weight of some of them.

if you have the dds (usb yes?) and a citronic sd player then consider ditching the cd bay and drop the lot in a 11u flat case and have the cd drive bay in its own 2 u case to be connected if needed. some cases stack well if you get the same brand.

just a thought

just looking at your citronic/numark case, wouldnt that do for the dds too?

Cheers Dave,
I could use a similar case to the one on my Citronic backup, but this would mean I had to do without the DDS drive bay (so no CD Playback), and would also need to get a USB HDD (not a huge problem).

In my citronic system, I've glue-gunned a 4-way power block, and the citronic psu (to stop it shaking loose), and is a pretty nice system).. shame about the mixer, but it is a backup..

You are right, to fix the dds drive bay will mean a 2U "lift" for the top, making the entire case 2U higher.
Using the same case would make things much more manageable.
I don't have any back problems, but I'm sure the existing Console case would cause problems due to its bulk sad.gif

Hmm, things to think about!

Cheers,
Jason
