Could do with a bit clarification on this one please

I have just picked up a pair of njd datamoons to find that they use 5 pin dmx instead of 3 pin. The pin config is as follows

Connectors: 5-pin XLR
Data+: pin 3
Data-: pin 2
Earth: pin 1
+12V supply output: pin 5 (on DMXin only)

I intend on using the njd datacon (NJ121C) for control for now but my light bar is prewired with 3 pin cables. Would you say pin 5 supplies power to the datacon and could i revert to a 3 pin cable after the first unit using a convertor.

reason i ask is that i wanted to avoid rewiring the light bar as sometimes i use different fixtures.

cheers

The 12v is only needed to power the NJD Datacon, as there are some simple electronics & dmx output chip inside it. You should only need a standard 3pin M-F 5pin (and oppposite convertor for the other datamoon).

I'm assum, imng you're only linking directly between the two. Not sure what the results would be if you were to link them to other fixtures at the same time (of course you probably wont be doing this anyway).

thanks David1ofmany. yes i only intend on linking 2 datamoons for now and may go down the complete dmx route later...much later, 2 are heavy enough on the giraffe stand.

why on earth do they give you a white datacon cable. sticks out like a sore thumb. pimping needed there!

How are you doing anyway...busy?
