Hi,

I'm looking into buying some sort of DMX control for my lights. I've narrowed it down to one software and one hardware option. MyDMX or Transcension DMX Operator 2, does anyone have any advice which is the better option.

I'm kinda favouring MYDMX as you don't have to physically set your lights up to create shows.

Thanks

Hi Steve,
I've got the Transcension Op 2, and also tried a USB DMX dongle. I'm not that keen on using the Transcension controller -its not re-mappable, and also fairly limited.
I do use it for controlling my uplighters (mainly 3-channel RGB LED), so nice and easy!

The USB DMX module will need a Laptop, and may need more set-up to get it right, but if you can put in the time, it should allow more impressive sequences.

It really depends on your fixtures (ParCans, Scanners or Moving Heads?).

You should be able to test the PC DMX software without any hardware at all, so could be worth playing with that for a few nights before making any commitment.
There are other DMX controllers (hardware), and these may be better.

I'm currently not buying any gear - but I suspect my next purchase would be a good DMX controller, leaving the Transcension for uplighting only.

Cheers!

Cheers for that Jason. I've had a play about with MyDMX, downloaded it a couple of weeks ago. I like it because it's very straight forward and easy to figure out.

At the moment I've got a couple of scanners, two Revo 4s and par cans for uplighting, which I've just bought.

Thanks for the help Jason, much appreciated.

I use a DMX Master 1, but only to run my parcans, i would love to try pc based programmes for the rest of my lighting though

Phil.
