I am just about to order some bits and make up some fly leads to go from lamps to a switch board, I just wondered what size cable I need 1.5 etc ????? I already have the males and female IEC Plugs, but I don`t want to order the wrong size cable....help
For most lighting effects upto 1000W, black 3 core 0.75mm is more than adequate. For power distribution boards and extension leads then 1.5mm is a good choice, I recommend using the blue Arctic grade cable for extensions and mains boards since it is tougher than standard cable and remains flexible under all conditions.

Yellow Arctic cable is for use on building sites running from 110V Transformers for site tools. Blue is the standard 230V rated stuff and available HERE
2 core also makes excellent, tough speaker cables for SPEAKON style connectors and long cables runs. You can use either blue or yellow 2 core for this application - yellow being ideal for high vis applications such as outdoor events. 16A will run speaker rigs upto about 1200W and 20A will handle upto around 2kw RMS.
