Hi guys,
I recently bought a DB12 active sub (second hand), however when I got it home I realised the fan was constantly on full speed and made a rattling noise. I was told that the fan should run slowly, unless the amp was running hot. Presumably as the fan had been funning constantly full speed, this had worn out the fan which I guess is why it made the rattling noise.
I took it to a repaired to get this fixed, and after they repaired the fan they said it made a slight "hum". They managed to get the wiring diagram and checked everything, and confirmed all is ok - but the hum is still there.
Unfortunately I am not local to the repaired so Ive not heard it yet, but I wanted to know if anyone could tell me what noise the DB12 should make when it is running. Should it be silent (apart from the fan)?
Im picking it up next week, and want to know if it is fixed before I collect it ;o)
Cheers, Mark.

I use a pair of the DB12 Subs. I do get a 'whirr' from the fan when I turn them on, but this is only noticeable because I'm crouched down right next to them to reach the on/off switch. The fans seem to start up at full speed and then very quickly (within seconds) slow down. Even with no signal and mixer levels up high I don't hear any noise from them at - so does sound like yours aren't working 100%.

Hi Funkymook,
Thats really usefull - many thanks. So basically, apart from the whirr from the fan when you switch on, there should be no other audiable hum. I will give them a call next week and check if that is the case.
Unfortunately it sounds like they think it is not right, but as they have checked everything electrical and it is all ok, they are assuming that any noise is normal.
Fingers crossed it is wht whirring they are talking about, and not anything else.
I dont suppose you know if there is an authorised repairer anywhere?
Thanks again, Mark.

Hi Mark,
Just double checked - definitely no hum, just the whirr of the fan as you turn it on which drops down to being barely audible within 2 seconds (couldn't hear it 3 feet away in a quiet living room) - had the volume turned up 100%, complete silence from the speaker.
Never had to get any DB stuff serviced so can't recommend anyone I'm afraid. Whereabouts are you? If you're nearby you're welcome to compare yours to mine when you get it back.
Cheers
Martin

Hi Martin,
Many thanks - that is really useful. At leats when I get the speaker back I will know if it is working properly or not. I fear not though as they said there is a slight hum, but they assure me they have checked everything against the wiring diagram and it is all working ok.
I guess if it is a very quiet hum I might be able to live with it - will have to wait and see.
Thanks again,
Mark
