Hi, i am looking at getting my own karaoke setup and i am tempted to go down the virtual DJ 6 route & try using their karaoke function, and then have it going to a monitor & into a projector. Does anyone do this? Either that or to use a dedicated player but that means more to carry & having to use more audio video/mains leads / desktop space...
What would/do you do?

Hey Dan, I'm the same, only just getting started with Karaoke and using VDJ 6. I've only done bedroom trials so far and it seems ok, but I have a gig next Fri week so will let you know how I get on. If Karaoke turns out to be a success for me I will certainly be getting a dedicated program, I like the look of PCDJ Karaoke as it is keenly priced and seems to look and work well, maybe someone else will tell you different though? I will be using 2 pc monitors 1 facing singers and one facing crowd with a VGA splitter, nothing fancy as I cant afford a projector at the moment until I get enough booking to justify one. It is quite an expensive thing to get into with mics, CDG's etc but hoping it will pay off.

The programs you mention are very similar one thing i will mention is computer spec ..mixing any sort of video is a major strain compared to mixing audio , the video transitions etc and visualizations eat minimum spec computers for fun , I have seen many a show crash for rival KJ's because they were asking too much of a laptop.
I use a basic karaoke program called MTU Hoster its expensive and does a lot less than others but its not a resource hog and is very reliable , it has a built in ripper a built in singer memory built in songbook generator fantastic key change facility a on line data base to rename tracks but its not a music DJ program. A few host friends have two pc sysems one for karaoke and one for music .
