Just been to my local emporium of DJ wonder, and the nice man in there couldn't wait to show me the Mackie Thump at £550 a pair Press here. They did sound nice but the shop is very small. Also the price worrys me are these a cheap speaker in a mackie skin!!

I just wondered if anyone has tried these out and if they would struggle in bigger venues?

Think I will continue adding to my srm450 v2 fund

I thought that it was the sister company Tapco that made the Thump.
I tried to get a demo of the Tapco Thump but couldn't find a stockest local to me.

Depends on your area but my local shop is in Dunstable Bedfordshire stocking the mackie thump if you are after a demo.

So it would appear to be a tapco in mackie clothing.

Hi

I have a pair of Mark 1 SRM 450's for padded Mackie covers in great condition. Happy to sell for £575.
PM or call me if interested.

I did start a comparison between the 2. The 450 has more power (300+100WRMS vs 150+50WRMS).
That aside, build/component quality and the number of returns.

Some of the repair engineers here may have experience of them?

Just because its designed by the same team, does not mean it is equal! The design spec may have called for sacrifices in quality (audio and build), then again, these may be minor - and the system could be very good value.

I do worry about basic or "Entry level" equipment in my experience before long you want the full blown grown up version as the basic just aint good enough!

Its a bit naughty of Mackie to quote MAX power rather than RMS power on that page:-

400W of ultra-efficient Fast Recovery™ amplification
• LF 300W peak power (Class-D)
• HF 100W peak power (Class A/B)

Makes it sound as if its the same as the SRM, but it's nowhere near in the same league...
