Minty, I thought of you when I heard yet another cover version of Man in the Mirror by a guy called Sam Tsui.

Not well known yet but great talent and all the acapellas are his. I think the kids are going to love this guy, High Scool Musical and all that. Will play some of this at the next kids party.

This version is better than the Glee one (IMHO)

Remember you heard it here first!

very clever, reminds me of a youth choir at one of my gigs last year. they did a rendition of bohemian rhapsody and it was jaw dropping.

I'm clearly in a minority here but I found both these clips to be frankly horrific. It was painful to listen to and I couldn't sit right through either of them to the end.

Nope I'm with you Mitch , frankly i hate this style of singing ...cheesy , musical style .. especially when the original songs have heart and soul , technically these are very good and sang well but they seem to extract all the real feeling out of the songs.

It wouldn't be right if we all liked the same thing.

music related?
MintyDave
who said i liked it, just appreciate the talent.

singing acapella like that with other people stood next to you who are singing notes 3rd 5th 7th and octives above and below you is chuffing hard.

my mrs is a sod for doing that. Im singing a tune and she instantly harmonises putting me right off.

well thats my excuse...!

Hmmm, this thread is beginning to read like a Mark Steven Johnson book.

Firstly, all the singing is done by one guy (Sam) and the video has been edited to include each version. All the music in the background is arranged and performed also just by one person (his friend Kurt). Kurt does all the post production as well. The recording etc is done at their local college/;hall as these guys are still teenagers.

No X Factor, no America's got talent, no showbusiness money. These two youngsters have done all of this by themselves. No mugging grannies, no lager louts, no dole money, no sad story with some soppy tune going on in the background. Just honest hard graft.

Their three main perormances (of which I provided links to two) have attracted more than 25 million hits on Youtube in the last few months. Pretty good role models IMHO.

Three of the kids for whom I'm doing a birthday party gig for next week heard it on my PC today while we were going through playlist selection with the parents and loved it. They asked me to include it in the show.

You're absolutely right though, I'm delighted that we all have different interpretations of talent and I look forward to other DJ's also posting acts they suggest we should look out for in the future! Customers enjoy being introduced to music they would not have normally listened to elsewhere.

Music related? I think so.

The boys got talent not something I would include into a playlist but along with the visual not bad at all. Wouldn't have the same appeal though if it was his own songs.

While we are talking about song copying or parodies. Try Richard Cheese very talented in a lounge singer style
I recommend Richard Cheese sings Creep RadioheadIPB Image

Until I read this thread I didn't realise that Radiohead had recorded Creep.

The version by Karen Souza is one of my current favourite tracks and I prefer it to the Radiohead version

Now you're talking! I LOVE RICHARD CHEESE!!! I have all his albums, his version of Yellow by Coldplay is probably a favourite. Sadly I can't find a link to share it with you all.

And if lounge singing isn't you're thing, then check out Hayseed Dixie who do covers and parodies in a bluegrass style. Again I have all their albums and have also had the pleasure of seeing them live, they put on a hell of a show. Here are a few treats:

I Don't Feel Like Dancing

I Believe In A Thing Called Love

Strawberry Fields Forever

Green Jello was great. The Cheese videos could be much better if only they could get the lipsync a bit closer.
