As some may know, i LOVE these mixers since i started using them in my local 1st leisure venue in 199-something. I own one that appears to fully working, no probs except a slghtly weak master output(which is rectified by using the CZ1 zone outputs which are strong) and much prefer it to the stuff thats around today(even the DJM800!).

The only thing that worries me is A ) its cracking on a bit in years and obviously as things get older they're prone to failure and B ) there are some rattly bits inside when you turn the mixer around(like a screw or something came loose-but more than one!). As i said, it appears to work fine etc.

Do i continue on, enjoying working with it but knowing about the faults or do I shell out the ££, send it to Cloud for inspection, knowing that it may come worse than when it went in? Cloud don't make the parts for it anymore.

Several commercial nightclubs still use the CXM, it was expensive then and an equivalent would be expensive now! I think its main appeal (along with contemporary rivals from Formula Sound and Soundcraft) was that modules could be taken out or swapped while leaving the mixer in situ for those busy week nights at the local nightspot.

I doubt many of the parts that may need changing will be hard to find, as it uses mostly standard off the shelf bits eg faders, switches etc. It's not like a modern digital mixer that uses custom chips or faders!

PS the photo below is one off ebay that sold last month for 700 Euro.

If you decide to have it serviced, don't try to send it to Cloud. They stopped selling/servicing pretty much all their disco equipment range quite a few years ago and mainly produce stuff like zone mixers, multi channel amps and broadcast equipment now.
The guy who used to run the 'front shop' disco retail side of Cloud is Chris Woodruff. As Cloud closed his side of things down he left and went on to open up a DJ Supplies store of his own (full-volume.co.uk)
He still repairs and services the old Cloud gear. Really nice bloke, i'm sure he'd help you out.
