Hey guys.

Someone has approached me and asked to do a christening
Now, it's not untill march but i thought i'd ask for some ideas of what to play at christenings. I'd think they would be treated as a wedding but without the first dance. lol

Now, what i know is the family is a big irish family so what irish songs could you advise and i suspect the age group could be from a tot's the grandparents.

I'm thinking that it could be an blank canvas and i could play something of everything but i just wanted to know, if anyone else has done one before and if so, what did you play?

Thanks for reading the topic.

Is this an evening do or a daytime event?

I did a Christening a few years back and found it wierd.

As it was during the day, most people were not drinking so there wasn't any dancing, apart from the kiddies dancing to kiddie tunes.

Weddings are a different atmosphere to Christenings as people normally have had a skinfull during the day and are normally up for dancing fairly early on.

To be on the safe side, I would ask them what they would like in terms of music. Would they prefer background music and maybe some irish tunes later on or would they like a mixture of music like a normal disco.

Go with the flow at the event but ask the questions so you can prepare.

Good luck BTW, let us know how it goes!

Last christening i did was a day time event and i was purely a glorified hifi/jukebox. Low volume and no lights as it was july. i literally played a big mix of everthing from the 50's to chart stuff. I was aked for a few requests by a few guests and supplied a mic for some speeches.

Being irish doesnt mean they want traditional irish tunes but be prepared as some would.

Did an irish wedding once and they wanted a load of 90's Manchester Indie
