5) I electrocuted myself when I was 16 by poking the two wires from one of those low-voltage multi-ended adaptors (that you plug into anything which uses batteries), into the two holes of a figure 8 cassette deck lead, without checking that it was unplugged at the wall – guess what – it wasn’t.

41) I’ve won heaps of prizes from a local radio stations phone-in quizzes by being caller number 9. (something to do with me dialling in from a landline, and 4 mobiles simultaneously I suspect)
42) I’ve “taken back” several radio station prize CD’s to record shops (in one of their bags) and changed them for something that I really wanted.
43) I regularly make use of Argo’s and Index’s 16 day money back guarantee’s. Last used for New Years Eve, to get a digital radio to receive the Big Ben chimes on for midnight…took it back as “unsuitable” a few days after. Need several radio mics for the audience to use, mid-February too…will make a trip to Index I think.

1. I have 1 real brother whom I’ve never met, 2 step-brothers, 1 half-brother & 3 half-sisters and yet grew up as an only child for the majority of my childhood!
2. I’ve visited over 70 countries and lived/worked in 14 yet never been to Scotland!
3. Many times in my life people have thought I’m an alien due to my seemingly limitless heat threshold. Even when I lived in Indonesia on the equator I never slept with a fan on although all the locals did. I get bored in saunas yet never too hot!!
4. I did weekly radio shows in Norway for a year and then in Indonesia for 7 years
5. I never buy newspapers
6. According to my mum I’ve always had a naturally positive attitude ever since I was a little kid and am usually always in a good mood even when first waking up
7. While living in Indonesia & South Korea I really OD’d on one-night stands!
8. I wrote monthly articles on music and on nightlife for Jakarta’s equivalent of Time Out for 3 years
9. My mum’s family are Irish and I love popping over to Eire to visit my cousins
10. Many times in my life people have thought I’m an alien due to my amazing eating capabilities; I can eat a few huge meals right after each other and yet will still usually feel hungry afterwards. Yet I’m virtually the same weight now as I was 22 years ago.

My dad thought I couldn’t swim properly and so when I asked his friends at his local to sponsor me, many of them sponsored me for £1 a lap as they all thought that I wouldn’t be able to do more than a lap. They were horrified when they found out that I did 30 laps. £30 was a lot of dosh in 1970!

Ok I can relate to a lot of the replies so far & could probably just cut & paste most things in so its taken me some time to think of things that haven’t already been said.
So here goes.
1. My name is John Hare (my logon of JACKWABBIT comes from 2 sources, I worked with a guy who kept calling me “JACK” & a school teacher who kept calling me “RABBIT”)
2. I’m 49 years young & getting younger by the day (well at least in the mind, even if the body is falling apart)
3. I started scuba diving at the age of 14, then had to give it up when I started riding motorcycles at 16. (couldn’t afford to do both)
4. My first involvement with discos was at the age of 17, when a friend got hold of 2 old radiograms from a scout jumble sale. We pulled these apart & built boxes to hold the 2 turntables, and the 2 tuner/amps (1 was used for each channel, stereo had just been born about that time.) I was his roadie / fixer, he didn’t know how to fix anything so I was always kept busy. We done about half a dozen gigs before he got fed up & went on to do something else.
5. I passed my driving test first time at 17, the examiner had me do the emergency stop going down hill while it was covered in snow.
6. I’ve had more electric shocks than I care to remember, but the biggest was when I was thrown across my shed & took the locked door off its hinges, ending up outside lying on top of the door.
7. I met my wife 30 years a go at a swimming pool, (I kept throwing her in) we have been married now for 29 years & wouldn’t change a thing.
8. We have 2 sons, one is into motorcycles & scuba diving & the other is into discos & posts on this forum (djsounds) I wonder where they get it from?
9. Our first house cost £10,000 in 1976
10. I currently work for BT & have been with them for 25 years before that I had a number of jobs, working in a paper mill, driving busses & coaches to even a drug pusher (not that type of drug pusher!, I used to work in a drug factory pushing pallets of drugs around the warehouse)
11. Shortly after starting work at BT, we used to go to a pub for lunch each week that had strippers. Sometimes the DJ’s didn’t turn up so they were always looking for regulars who could put the music on for the strippers. I didn’t get any money for this but I did get free food & drink and the best view in the house for about 2 years.
12. I don’t support any football teams; In fact I don’t like any ball sport at all. Doing water sports or watching motor sport is my thing.
13. My first motorcycle was a Matchless 250CSR & my first car wasn’t really a car it was a Bedford Camper van.
14. I can’t be bothered with reading books
15. My hand righting is apalling
16. But my spilling is even worserer
17. I’m not over weight for my height, I’m just too short for my weight ( I should be 9feet tall)
18. I have dark hair (well it was before it started going grey)
19. I have blue eyes
20. I have the habit of spending more money than I have coming in.
21. I’ve had many motorcycle accidents all baring one wasn’t my fault, my last one was in 1989 this put me in hospital with a broken leg in 3 places & broken fingers. At this time I was advised not to ride bikes again, and I would probably have to have a knee replacement in the next 10 years. Well I’m still on my own knee 15 years later & although it can be a pain at times I won’t let it stop me doing the things I like.
22. I dress in rubber & leather at the appropriate times. See 23 & 24 below.
23. I started scuba diving again 10 years a go & I’m now the clubs diving officer.
24. I started riding motorcycles again 3 years a go when my eldest son got a scooter (my wife thinks I’m mad after what happened last time)
25. My philosophy to life is ‘you only live it once so do any & everything you want to, its no good thinking later in life “I wish I had done that when I had the chance”
26. I think my wife worries too much; but then again with me & the boys she probably has good reason. See 22, 23, 24, 25 above
27. Now I should worry because I know she reads this forum.
28. I have only had one holiday abroad that was in 2002 when my eldest son & myself went to the Red Sea for a diving holiday.
29. I have a bad memory especially when it comes to names.
30. I can’t remember what I was going to put next.
31. If someone had told me 10 years a go I would be going to discos nearly every week I wouldn’t have believed them.
32. I enjoy doing things with the boys, I just wish I had more money to help them out more.
33. Favourite films: any sci-fi or action.
34. Favourite TV programs: Not sure, I tend to have the TV on while bashing away at the laptop. Although I do enjoy watching those DIY programmes, just to see the finished result (why do people let them do it?)
35. Favourite food: deserts, cream cakes, eclairs etc.
36. 2nd Favourite food: Chinese or anything not spicy.
37. I used to enjoy large DIY projects up until my accident in 1989, but as my wife can confirm I never actually finished any of them. There was always a small bit of skirting not painted or missing. Now DIY is something that has to be done, it all takes too long.
38. Motoring things that wind me up: People jumping red lights, People driving into box junctions
with nowhere to go & of cause BMW drivers who think they own the road.
39. Other pet hates: Junk mail in any format,
40. I’ve only been booked for speeding once & that was back in 1974, I’ve been lucky so far but with all the cameras going up everywhere its only a matter of time before it happens again.
41. As a child I dug up something that looked like a small bomb, I tied it to the rack on the back of my bicycle & took it to the village cop-shop. He went very white then made me go round the back of the station, while he untied it & placed it in a bucket of water surrounded by sandbags.
