I know there is a sticky regarding music for a wedding and there is another for how to run an average party, but most of the detail with regard to playlists is limited to a few Artist names.
Would it be possible to get a better Artist/Track list for varous parts of an event as this is one of the main items that can either make or break a new DJ.
I for one am aware of the "cheeze" usually played towards the climax of the evening, but some playlists in more detail that other DJ`s know work would be a great starting point for people who like me, are new to the game.

Kind of like asking Coca Cola for their secret recipe!!!!!! For my part every wedding is different and i am in a different country ,different traditions etc i expect one of the uk based boys will be along soon.

I don`t want a track by track listing for a whole evening but a little more than "blue, shania twain etc" would be very helpful, I appreciate that many experienced DJ`s have got the skill to read a dance floor or function, but when like myself and others are starting out in the business a guide to what to and what not to play would be a massive help as we have not yet developed that skill.

I agree with CS, every function is different. On an average basic i would start off with things like Celebration, Billie Jean etc, then move onto chart stuff including stuff like Make Luv, Dirrty etc. Then move onto the likes off Love really hurts without you and Wake me up before you go go, then move onto the cheesy stuff, and then maybe into Ottawan - Hands up and some soul etc. But everytime is different so.

Agree with all the above, if I said my playlist from a couple of weeks ago included

Peggy Lee
Frank Sinatra
Pink
The Clash
Whitney Houston

You wouldn't book me would you ? but I played all of those in the one gig.

So you can only go by what the dancefloor wants

I think with all weddings that things dont go to schedule, normaly i end up starting an hour later than agreed with the bride and groom! You obviously have your wedding waltz but after that you are on your own with the brides request list!
What i do is i think like this...most elderly people (not all) leave earlier than the younger guests so i am going to start playing to grans \grandads,uncles \aunts etc,now some grans are quite modern and not really into Mrs Mills anymore so i start off with something not too offensive for any one.EG Wet wet wet -love is, an elton john track,George Michael-Careless Whisper,Stevie Wonder-I just called. After a short while i would start trying to get over to something newer which will appeal to both age groups ,something Latino like Ricky Martin \Gypsy Kings leading on to some pop commecial dancy stuff but nothing too hard. Then maybe some rock and roll classics ,i mean bill Haley, everlys not John Otway and wild willy Barrett, moving on to a little sixties like monkees nicely into 70s disco and here we are in cheezville cos from ymca to macarena to agadoo is only a short way and all grans love the macarena\birdie song etc. As the evening moves on i would be moving more and more chart`\dance orientated for the younger crowd but keeping it varied all the same. This is a sort of run down of a wedding i did here in Norway in September and it worked very well. Its 20 years since i did a wedding in the uk and my suggestions might be totaly wrong, but i would think elements of it would apply in the uk. I will sit here and wait for the others to pull it to pieces but i hope it helps a little! 071.gif ADE If you want a track list then pm me and i will mail it to you.

Cheers C.S the points you have made are very valid, I like the idea of playing to the age groups as the evening wears on.....what wrong with John Ottaway...lol
If you would mail me a track listing then I would be most appreciative, it willallow me to see if I have got a decent enough collection of tracks that would suit, or if I should start to scour more boot fiars to add to the collection.
Many Thanks

Have a look at the virtual playlists... but even what we think of as "guaranteed get em on the floor tracks" wont work for every crowd. One night abba can go down a storm and the next they wont want to know. It will come with experience... but in the meantime.. encourage the audience to give you requests. I have said this before, but I often do an opinion poll at the beginning of the evening, ask the crowd to shout if they are into 70s disco/70s rock / 80s soul / 80s pop/60s/50s etc... you will get instant feedback - and just start off with what the crowd shouted loudest for!

Cheers Kazzachi, will have to use that idea, will have to be brave on the mic.....lol, and also the request slips that someone else suggested might be a cool idea.
Oh and next time you have a BBQ....LOL I will bring my own table as there didnt appear to be much room on yours 071.gif

Hei hoseman did you get the playlist i mailed you?
Hoseman-ade
Hi CS ....yes sorry I didnt get back to you but I have been rather busy trying to track a lot of the stuff down that I have been given, Information wise that is biggrin.gif
I am still begging, stealing and borrowing cd`s so I have enough to go "Live"
as I need to start on the road now to recoup the money I have paid out.

I am a little uncertain on basic party stuff, what sort of music do you play as everyone is arriving, cos you don`t start of your set as soon as your set up ???

I have got yours and another good playlist for weddings, but until I am more confident I won`t be attempting those as its someones very special day and I would hate to be the one who made the end of the day a disaster.
So for a few months at least I am going to stick to basic parties, so any help from anyone with regard to a track listings would be appreciated.
But many thanks once again for taking the time and trouble to mail me the list and slap my wrist nono.gif for not replying sooner

Cheers

hi there again every1....

i don't really have playlists if you know what i mean. of course when i play out (but unfortunately it doesn't hapen that often) i do tryn to set up a small set but like that you just pick up tunes that fit to each other...
doesn't any1 else do that?

and what i have realsed as well is ''weddings''! wedding here, weddings there, weddings everywhere! i'm not saying this in a negative way ppl. 188.gif
i was just wondering if you don't play in clubs? or radio? why weddings??? is that easier to get work? and am i the only drum'nbass head in this forum too!?? wallbash.gif
