Hiya all..I am doing my first NYE and just needs a few tips on the order of events on these types of nights.
I am doing it for a local pub but obviously with it being my first Nye I am a bit scared!
I am going to try the DMC Christmas and new year mega mix..Using the mix on track 2 going into the chimes which is track 3 and then into auld lang syne which is track 4.

If anyones has this cd is this right?

Sounds like a lot of unnecessary stress to me.

Depends on what the crowd will be like, but from experience you can't beat fading over to the radio and playing Big Ben live. I think they like the fact that it's real and not prerecorded.

There's also no doubt then about whether the DJ got the time right. There's bound to be someone there with nuclear all singing all dancing watch that will disagree otherwise.

Good idea lol showing my inexperience there,I havent got a radio on my rig but what I figured I can do is take a portable one and plug into the headphone socket and RCA through my amp,going to test this tommorow.

You don't even need to do that.

Just plug it in at the begininng of the evening, tune it all up (I suggest not Radio 1 as they might fade in and fade out some music). Check Radio Times online and pick a boring channel that's covering Big Ben at midnight.

When the time comes, just hold your microphone up to the radio!!!!

As far as best time to turn it on, I suggest you do it before 12

Does this pub not have a telly? Most years i have played right upto the time watching a telly in the background then announced get ready for the countdown it goes deadly silent then the crowd count down with the telly then straight back to tunes ..simples

Last year, I pre-mixed Big Ben with Auld Lang Syne. I padded the start of Big Ben to the nearest 30 seconds, so I had about 1:30 before midnight.
I decided that trying to mix Big Ben, make annoucements/countdown and then mix in Auld Langs Syne was a bit too much for me!
This worked out fine, less stress and work for me! I knew when midnight came, I only needed to annouce it, and then had a few mins to chill.

This year, still not sure - I've got last years mix, and a few others. I will take along a Radio and plug that into my mixer - just in case!
For anyone needing to do this, make sure the venue allows a good signal, so test it out on arrival and have a back-up plan!

This year, I'll be warming up the crowd, with "2hrs to go" etc - not too often, but enough to set the mood.
Remember to announce a few mins in advance so any smokers will be dragged back indoors!

Double check Auld Lang Syne is ok, and make sure you hit them with a party classic!

Out of interest, what version of Auld Lang Syne are people using?

I have a classic version by Pop Party... which is basically the crowd singing... then mixed it into Boney M version...............

There are hundreds of versions.

The best one for me is short intro, straight into the first verse, chorus and then speed it up as it goes along, with no second verse as nobody knows the words.

The one by the Shamrock Singers (The All Occasion Record) does that.

Its on one of the Mastermix Discs. Mastermix Party.

I have checked my collection and have realised that my CD case is an empty one and am now struggling to find this version for new years eve !!

Does anyone know the best manchester radio to tune into if the venues do not have tv's,hopefully they will but dont want everythin going boobies up!!

One of my karaoke discs (ezh41) has a great track. Even if I'm not doing karoke on NYE I always bring it. It has a 60 second on-screen countdown, with a booming voice at 20 second intervals "40 seconds to the New Year" etc then has a vocal 10-1 countdown, then "Happy New Year" (with chimes and stuff) vocally and on-screen, followed by short on-screen fireworks and then the Auld Lang Syne karaoke track. Cheesy but fantastic.

Noddy Holder's Slade is a favourite of mine. Its on the Slade xmas party album - they do a mix of 'auld lang syne' and 'you'll never walk alone'

I priced myself out of the market on purpose this year as the last 2 have been miserable. Not 1 person wished me happy new year, the crowd were quite hostile and one bloke started an arguement about the exact time even though i was playing the live readio broadcast - he reackond i missed new year by 2 minutes - duh!

Now its confirmed i am djing for free at a flaming house party that we are all going to, so my other half has just informed me. I think i will play my music and stuff everybody else - Grunge + Grunge with a bit of thrash metal. Dont like the hosts - too vain for me and wont be enough room for all the ego's

Have a radio controlled didge clock that i display from the time i start it counts down never get any one moan about the chimes

That's a rare disc as its a limited bonus disc that came with EZH41 , i agree its a great track.

Mine went fine. Some kid requested Robbie Williams' "Bodies", so I used that as background to get people up on the floor.
My custom NYE track was cued up, and at 11:59:03 (ish! lol), it was brought in.
The custom track had Big Ben (WAV download from my previous post), with Royal Scotch Guards playing ALS with a very gentle fade in, at midnight, the ALS track goes a bit bonkers with drums, and very upbeat bagpipes. No vocals, but its a very dancy version.

Its always going to be a bit of work to run the countdown, cue up songs and make sure its all correctly timed - to make my life easy, I got Carmen to keep eyes on the clock and bring in the track whilst I was getting people up.

was at a party doing a bit of karaoke for a laugh. found a laptop and managed to log onto the net using the hosts wireless and plugged into the hosts pa. went onto radio 2 which was a bit dissapointing as all they had was a load of dance tracks which faded into big ben than back out again. the majority of the guests actually missed new year.

i was a semi drunken guest doing them a favour so was clearly not my fault! thats my excuse and im sticking to it!

I started my cheesy listening bit just after 11 and rounded off the hour with Mustang Sally and then into Commitment's midnight Hour, Big Ben and Noddy Holder wil lALD and never walk alone and then ABBA Happy new year. Went down really well.

I got poeple up before midnight with a bit of soft rock, Killers, Kings of Leon, Bon Jovi. Used Europe, The Final Countdown as my last song before bringing in the Big Ben Chimes, and straight into Party Poppers ALS. Went down a treat. The Pub was busy, and the night went down very very well. Even got a bonus from the landlord as he had done double the takings he done on NYE 2008.

Hope everyone had a good one, and may 2010 bring us all the decent gigs and business we want.
