Guys and girls,

I have my first 60th Wedding Aniversary tomorrow night and I'm still trying to compile a playlist....

They have requested a few songs :

The Great Pretender
Frank Sinatra
Congratulations/Celebrations song....

How would you guys plan the night? What songs would you play?
The event booker has basicly told me to do what I think is best....

HELP :)

Alex
Carmen
Maybe some 50's rock and Roll/ pop.

I'm assuming they're in their 80's so perhaps Glenn Miller as background music, and the Rat Pack.

Quite a difficult one!!

Very difficult one. If it was me, I would definately have quite alot of swing, mowtown and Northern sould in there aswell.

I did a golden ann earlier in the year and what you need to remember thats its mainly family there and although I played the odd 50s no more than I would at any other party. Just play what you do at a normal party and if I remember 70s and 80s went down well.

Im trying to find the playlist for it.

Alex,

Don't forget they didnt stop listening to music once they past the age of 20.

Assuming they're 80 years old their teen music experience would have been during and just after the war so there will be plenty of big band bop, ealry Frank Sinatra, Ink Spots, Andrews Sisters, Dick Haymes. These are the types of compilation CDs you can pick up in the high street for £1.99.

Their core music experience though would have continued through the 50's, 60's and probably until the 70's, early 80's so you should be well within your music collection other than the early stuff. There's plenty of dance material there.

I understand the comment about younger family being there but personally,as it's their event, I would stick to music of their era and would stay away from anything they are unlikely to enjoy.

Good luck, show us your playlist afterwards?

Cheers for the tips guys :)

I've got a fair few songs ready now and in line for mixing tonight... should be an interesting night!

I'm usually nervous before any gig, but for some reason tonight I feel the nerves even more!

I'll post when I get in and let ya know how it goes :)

Regards

I'd go for some Glenn Miller, a MUST for me. Not just their age group but younger people like to jive to him too. IPB Image

wow ---- what a night!

Turned out it was one of the most easiest gigs I have EVER done... and the busiest private gig too.

We had just over 250 people arrive......... They wanted Frank Sinatra and 50s swing music... which was played for the first 40 mins while people were arriving and finding their seats.

I started out with a playlist of modern stuff for about 50 minutes until the food was laid out... at which point we went back to the quiet swing/motown music again.

Then the speeches and stuff... and I then decided to invite the couple up to dance to their first wedding dance (Have I told you recently that I love you) ... which was a fantastic idea! NO one had thought to do that....

And then moved onto 50's .... suddenly realised the time so jumped straight to 70's... bit of party dances... and then the most recent stuff!

At one point, we think we counted about 200 people on the dancefloor! It was manic!

The family were lovely as well.... they kept offering to buy our drinks ( which we politely refused of course.....) and offering us food!

It was so good, by the end of the night, I shoved a premix I had done on... Lots of moto blanco mixes chucked together... and danced with everyone while the boyfriend played SADuko and kept an eye on the system!

Unfotunately I did't save my playlist so I can't post it... however I'll try and remember most of the popular tracks and post a bit later! :)
