I am about to be retired from work on ill health
I am really sorry to hear that
As you know Djing can be quite physical and sometimes mentally stressful.... ok its not going down pit for 23 hours a day but you still need to be of a certain fitness to DJ especially if your setting up gear.
I can cross fade, i can beat mix , i can identify the key of the track and BPM , i seems to be able to read most crowds with regard to music selection , but i would not class myself as a "mix dj " I have never been criticized on my mixing technique and to be honest for the functions i do and the crowds i do cross fading tracks from one to another seems to work for me.
In my opinion it depends on what sector of the market you wish to appeal to , i could not do a funky house club , or a specialist indie club every night , i know what suits me and my style.
it seems you have a knack with people as your kj skills are great so if your doing a karaoke night no one expects you to be Fat boy slim as well.
Music selection for my nights is the key in my own experience rather than other DJ skills.
I hope your health is well and gets better and i genuinely wish you good luck in finding people who you can gig with ...
all the best Rob
