Hi Folks, another question...

I need some G clamps but the ones on EBay and DJ websites look a bit pooh.gif

Either they are silver (which doesnt go with my nice new stand) or they all have tightening bolts with raw ends that will scratch my nice black powder coated square frame.

Can you recommend a good source?

I found the Manfrotto Super Clamp on YouTube and that looks good but it's a bit of a minefield as when looking for the cheapest ones they dont seem to have the necessary detachable pins.

The Rhino quick release clamp looks good value

Can anyone shed some light (so to speak) ???

Also, how many of you actually use safety wires in addition to the clamps? And if so where's the best place to get them??????

Every time I think I have all the necessary gear, something else comes along!!!!!

I have been using the quick release clamps since they first came out.

I have the female parts attached permanently to an overhead bar and attaching and detaching the lights is easy and fast.

I use safety wires too. I haven't needed to buy any for years but bought them from Terralec.

I have some safety chains, I use them if they are on fixtures where the audience might be in danger should they fall... Got them from Maplins...

I have the 35mm and 50mm g-clamps in silver - not ideal but they work quite well (the 50mm ones are a bit too big imho).

And yes they do scrape the paint off the black t-bar - Although I only ever put this "one way" around (so that the scratched bit is always facing the back)...

Much better than screwing the fixtures on first though!

Safety chains for all the heavy ones - the vastos (and the 300w par cans) I don't bother cos they're quite light anyway...

Cheers,

I used to use clamps, but found they looked messy, so now I bolt straight through the bracket onto the truss.
I use safety wires on EVERYTHING, even a light weight LED fixture could cause a nasty gash (cue another oohh argh missus from Dan LOL) on somebody should it fall.
