Heres one for you all, how do you find a name that you can use for your Mobile Disco, that either isnt in use, or isnt being used in the area around you ????
I need a name..."Not Rude" tongue.gif that will not stand on anyones toes, I have looked through the yellow pages and done some local research, but that doesnt guarantee
that the name isnt in use.

Helppppppp sterb188.gif

Hie.I choose names for lots of djs in my area and my biggest hint I use is I start with their real names and from there I look at their target market and their personality.U have to choose a name that u have to be proud of say in 10years down the line. Take your time mate and be creative and original,it pays off.

Hi

Just a couple of thoughts...

1. Choose a name that best describes your company and that will imbed itself into your customer's psychi.

2. If you intend of using the internet to do a good deal of your marketing and promo through your own website, make sure the name is easy to spell. A tip I picked up from a book I recently read is: Pick a name that can be understood on someone's answering machine without you having to spell it.

3. Unless you intend to stick to mobile disco's forever, don't include those words in your business name. When I first started out I went under the name Big Mix Roadshow. This restricted my business activities. When I moved from Birmingham to Northants area, I took the opportunity to rethink my business name. I now go under the name of Big Mix Entertainment, which still describes enough without being too restrictive.

4. Brainstorm some names for yourself, get a list of 15 to 20 names and ask some folks who you trust what they think.

5. Don't choose a name that will alienate yourself. In other words, if you're aiming at the family party croud, don't choose a name like Massive Beets Roadshow, or folks might think you just deal in thumping hard club music.

6. A minor point, but once you have a few names short listed, print them out so you will get a feel for how they will look on leaflet's business cards etc and try and work the name into a company logo.

7. Don't get too exotic, some of the hugest coompanies in the world have simple names. ICI, Amazon.com, Shell, Ford...see where I going? The longer the name the more likely it will be forgotten.

Hope that helps

Cheers for all the constructive feedback, lots of points that I had not even thought of

High Fidelity
I picked mine based on what I felt was the most important difference between me and others. ie: High Fidelity sound.

once you have decided on a name, do a search of it on the net.. that should tell you if anyone local has got that name already. I have recently changed over to my name "disco services" because my roadshow name is one I inherited when me and hubby formed the partnership - it had been going longer than my name.
pulsations
Choosing a DJ name or DJ business name is hard. You want a name that appeals, yet is simple. I've had about 5 or so names that I've thought would be good, only to do a quick search and find someone else has it! I guess it's not such a big deal if they aren't in the same country but still... smile.gif

I still have yet to get a DJ name, pulsations is a bit long and has some rather dodgy conotations eh!!! Not sure if it'd be suitable for playing in upper class clubs ... but then again I do think I'm going to be playing disco-house biggrin.gif!!!

You may want to check www.discogs.com . It's an artist/label/record database where there are quite alot of artists listed. Best way to check there are no local DJ's with the same name would be to ask another local DJ that has been around for a while and knows the field!!! smile.gif

hope that helps smile.gif

I thought for a while for a catchy name for my disco business......my imagination ran away with me, and I decided upon Steve Shores Mobile Disco biggrin.gif

Seriously tho, I just chose the simple way out and included my name. If I had thought of some outstanding catchy name I guess I would have used it but i think including your name is something that closely links you to your work.

Agree mate! I often get asked if I ever sub work out to other djs.... if they have received by name by recommendation and want to be sure that I will be at their 'do'. Incorporating your name adds that personal touch I believe.

just a little snippet here...if you actual put "discoteque" instead of the word "Disco" it appeals to the upper class punter.. dunno why.. perhaps they like us to talk proper!

Heres a thought, weve had live aid - so what about music-ade!

Dave dee's dosy disco machine - OK i'm an old fogey
Chrispy
Hey Mikeee - there is a DJ around this area called Dave Dee so expect the writ in the post smile.gif .

I think the simplest names are the best and easiest to remember, and if you can think of something short and snappy that gets attention then even better thumbup.gif .

Karen's isn't a bad suggestion, although thinking about it, "Music - Ade" sounds like a hoe down at a village hall to fundraise for the local church youth band rolleyes.gif .

How about "Repetitive Beats and Cheesy Tunes Roadshow" or "DJayz 'R' Us" or "bump 'n' grind".......Maybe not whistling.gif

Hoseman-ade
Wow what great Ideas....lol, although I am not to sure about the Village Hose down idea sterb188.gif
I was thinking about "Ade`s Disco--the sounds are just as infectious" but then I thought perhaps better not !!!
I am sure I will find a suitable name sooner or later I would probably want some theme with "Fire" in it, due to my job, so answers and ideas on a postcard pleeeeze thumbup.gif

Try searching for companies through Google. If the company exists, you'll pick up their website (if they're online), or if not, you may pick up info from a local council website, yellow pages...etc.

As for registered names, try this page for more information. (There's loads more stuff about starting up there as well).

how about, ''we play our songs at this party and we can do the same at yours for £160, book us now disocteque''

If you are looking at using the internet it's a must to look at domain name registration as you might pick a name and not be able to use it in your web address.
