I was hoping to use a second amp i have to run 2 x 8 Ohm subs in bridged mode,
This taking the impedence down to 4 Ohms.
Why is it that mid range amp manufacturers do not recommend running 4 Ohms bridged?
Is it the same as running 2 Ohms sterio? and thats how much both channels have to work.

In the spec the amp gives it maximum figure for mono 8 ohms, It says nothing about mono 4 Ohm, only for sterio, but thats not the combined power,

So answering my own question i can only use one sub per amp in bridged mono unless i get a 2 Ohm stable amp that can be reliable running 4 Ohm bridge.

I think i just carry on using one amp and connecting the subs up with the full range.

Any views? 533.gif

Thanks.

To provide 4 ohm bridged mono the amp usually has to have 2 ohm stable channels - yes.

Running in bridge mode places slightly more strain on the amplifier since one is run out of phase with the other to give the push-pull effect. Running an Amp which is not rated at 4ohm bridged can damage it - especially at high power levels.

Perhaps one of you techies could explain what "Bridge" mode is as I have the setting on my amp ????
Also how does the speaker setup differ, do you connect to each speaker a different way, instead of the usual 1 cable to the rear of each speaker ??
