I was just wondering what spare kit you carry apart from fuses, bulbs, cables etc to each booking you do, do you actually carry spare Amp and Speakers etc, or do you have complete faith in your equipment......hmmm didnt that sound a bit rude..lol
I was just curious as to how much more I gotta spend, and still keep my wife and kids!!!!

I always have faith in my equipment...but Disco's are another matter.

In addtion to basic tools, fuses, Lamps etc I carry:-

Spare leads
First aid Kit
Nurofen,& Indigestion tablets (Well Some buffets are just.....)
Fire Extinguisher
Small 2 Channel basic Mixer
2 walkman type cd players
Spare Amp
Torch
Spare driver diaphram for Horn Tweeter

All this (bar the amp) fits behind the front seats and so doesn't take up any room in the loading area of a very small van smile.gif

My back up includes

Laptop computer
120 GB Hard drive
Mixer
3 CD players
1 MD player
2 Corded Mics
1 Radio Mic
Fire Extinghisher
First Aid Kit
Paracetomal/Anadin/Rennie
1lt Coke !!
16amp plug
32amp plug

And about 10 of each type of leads (extension, IEC's, XLR's, phonos, jacks, speakons, and every available connection so I can connect anything into anything else)

Probably too much as back up, but as Chris will tell you that's me !!

Everybody carries spare bulbs with them, the question is when do you change a bulb and when do you leave it.

I tend only to change a bulb if it goes when I first set-up and check the lights are working. If it goes mid-gig it probably leave it, unless I can do it easily while guests are eating pies/pasties & sausage rolls.

What is the general feeling?
YourBigEvent
Depends on the function really, I would normally do the same as you, but I have been known to change mid gig
Chrispy
I would often change a lamp mid gig - providing there is a suitable opportunity such as a buffet break in which to do it, and the lamp is easily accessible.

If it failed after the buffet or near to the end of the function I wouldn't bother - most people wouldn't notice it anyway.
andrew dowding
as long as you get the chance to do it
i would if not id leave it till id finish
Hoseman-ade
So all in all, it seems I have only forgotten my make up bag and stilleto`s...lol

Spare amp and mixer, along with all the usual power leads, fuses, etc (also collar and black tie!!!)

My music collection is fairly well balanced between minidisc and cd so would be able to get through a 'standard' gig if either my cd decks of minidiscs packed up!

If poss i try to change the bulb if, as has been said, there is a suitable break. This however also depends on the light, the twister 3's i use are much quicker to change a bulb than the martin acrobats

never to many leads as i found out to my error sat. i have recentally been using a pair of denon dn-s5000 but these are not flight cased as with my pionner 500s and mixer so i decided for times sake to take my flight cased pio's but i had taken the phono leads off the cd players so just berore i left i took them from my denons and put them in my coat pocket but as i left they must have got caught on my gate so i got to the venue then to my horror i realised i only had the phono lead that connects my mixer to my amp. oh no 014.gif so i had a old dodgy mic lead in my bag which i used for my mic it held up ok then i used my good mic lead to conect my mixer to my amp ( thank god the pionner djm 500 has xlr outs and my amp has jack ins) and used the 1 just 1 half of a phono lead for each cd player i switched it all to mono and it sounded surprisingly ok but in future will have to pack more spares. stupid.gif

if the bulb has gone... change it immediately! I dont ever change bulbs cos I dont know how, so I usually have two or three spare lights on the motor just in case!
Cheezy
Carry usual stuff, amp, walkman CD, fuses. I always have multiple leads.

I never carry spare bulbs. If an effect goes I have normally 6 in the standard rig, so one less is no problem.

I prefer to replace the bulbs at home, where lenses, mirrors and fans can be cleaned and inspected. Also a check over wiring is a good idea, it is amazing how many earth terminals come loose. Also I log when bulbs fail on my PAT documentation, I know it is OTT, but when bulbs fail repeatidly on the same lamp in a short time......thats when you find the fan is running too slow and about to fail!.

Another reason for not carring bulbs is they always seem to get broken!

Sometimes I wish I had a spare me, especially when feeling rotten with a sore throat!
