Hi

I am starting up mobile’s again after 16years lay off and need to buy a complete set up and thought I would start with the speakers and build from their. So to help me on my way

1. On a four way speaker system are their any general rules that I should look for to get the correct balance and sound, between the bottom and top speaker cabinets IE. Speaker sizes, the wattage, also the balance between the base, mid and high ranges

2.And in the mid price range( passive speakers) any advice please on the makes I should take a look at

If you want a reasonably fool-proof method, buy a four box set that the manufacturer designed to work together! That way, the top/bottom cabs will be voiced correctly as well as the built-in crossovers as appropriate. 4-box sets these days are the result of computer-aided design.

Of course, with experience, you can mix and match any speakers together but unless you have electronic crossovers & bi-amplification and either serendipity or experience, the results may be disappointing.
