Full Version: How To Stop Your Cd's From Going Walkies

Does anyone else have problems with Cd going walkies. Since they are pocket size they are very easy to steal and you can have no proof that they are yours. A few days ago I looked into the different solutions of how to stop them from going missing. Here are my results.

  • The easiest and cheapest thing to do is to fit a secure lock to your flight case.

But this is a pain because each time you want to change the cd you will have to unlock the case and relock it.

  • The next thing I found was to put your flight case in a secure lockation where the audience / crowd can not reach

But again this is impractical due to the fact that if its in a secure location it probably is hard for you to reach.

  • The next thing to try is to make a dent in the cd case.

This is still impractical and does't do much good since it is usually only the cd that goes missing and not the case.

  • If these don'y work for you you can tr using a sharp knife to carve your intatials onto the clear plastic part of the cd.

Again this is time consuming and if you ever decided to sell your cd's this will mean you can not sell them for the max amount of cash.

  • One of the best solutions I have found is to buy special clear adhesive plastic that has your name etched on to it. ( But I can only find them for sale in america )

This is good because you can still see the cd fascia and the plastic is unremovable so if the theif wants to sell it he will have trouble doing so because it has your name on it.

  • The last and probably best solution is to puchase a u.v. pen and portable u.v light. And to mark all of your cds with your post code (on the front)

This is one of the most practical because it doesn't take too long and you can instatly prove they are yours. And if you happen to own a u.v. cannon or such like you will be able to prove they are yours whist still at the venue..

Hope this helps people and I will let you know if I can find these clear adhesive covers.

Cheers

Simple.............Buy a Lap Top biggrin.gif

No serious it is a big problem I have lost a few in my time. A friend of mine at christmas got all his CD's stolen from his car while loading up. Simple solution to that never leave your car unlocked while loading up.

The thing I used to do was always have my CD's behind me so no one but me could get near them.

I must admit I still use one of those green edge pens (the ones which are supposed to prevent laser rays escaping) dunno if it works or not but I know instantly if a CD has a green edge its mine!!!
NineLives
If it was only legal to use backup cdr's that you own , this would not be a problem.

hey Spin , I use the same Green Pen ! , you want to fight for that CD , I say its mine ! sterb188.gif 1028.gif wink.gif

Fortunately given our geographic locations I still say its mine, unless you're making illegal copies of my CD's of course! wink.gif

Eh ? , so you are going to have to untie a knot in a bit of string in the middle of a quick cd or song change ? , how are you gonna get the cd's into the cd cases / sleves with all those 100's of bits of string getting ya into a tangle ? thumbdown.gif
The Spindoctor
Now you take a six inch piece of GAFFA Tape................

Dummy CD's - that's the answer.

All those junk-mail CD's to join a server - you can use the string (or Gaffa Tape) and place them in stragic places around your set.

Not only do they make good place mats, when you dangle them, they look pretty when they catch the lights of the scanners and reflectors. And keep flies off your drink.

The 6" nail (with the Gaffa Tape) comes in handy as a CD stackable for junk CD's.

PLUS - you can place the remaining dummy CD's in a line across your dashboard to reflect beams from speed trap guns - and then 'give it some' after the gig at 240mph, across the hills and down the country lanes.

If you're lucky, a UFO might notice the glimmering dummy CD's and abduct them from your dashboard.

But remember - never give an alien your Gaffa Tape. nono.gif

I think you're almost as barmy as me!!! (he says trying to clear the Cd's from his dashboard without being noticed)
