Following on from the Cheesy Stuff.

We used to have a DJ in our area (before he retired) who was a real character and would always get down on the dancefloor with the guests when playing the cheesy stuff.

I remember seeing him at a 30th birthday party where he dragged/got a load of the guests on the dancefloor with him and proceeded to do Dr. Demento's Star Trekkin. I don't know about dancing on the dancefloor, but there was certainly a lot of falling about and laughing by the guests on the dancefloor as they tried to follow him - it was fantastic.

I certainly haven't got the character to do that, but I probably would do The Ketchup song or Fast Food etc. from the safety of the stage.

So the question?

Do you ever get on the dancefloor with the guests to lead the way.

All the time!

Not as often as i used to,but i still do it sometimes,i tend to always dance anyway, adds a bit of life and static djs tend to look disinterested in what they are doing biggrin.gif

for typical mobiling work, I think it goes down really well being really interactive with your crowd..... I dance behind and in front of the decks all the time... no matter what or where the function... and the crowds love it... especially if I show em a few dance routines! or give them instructions over the mic!

I went down the usual family disco road as in wouldnt it be nice if you got another Dj in? scared.gif My poor aunt has never been the same since! this guy was quite old dressed in blue shiny shorts and a jacket.
He cleared the floor, stuck a chair in the middle ones auntie on it and procceded to do this horrendess dance around her it was awful but we fell about laughing!
Apparently it's a special dance for Birthday girls.
Then out came two skipping ropes and he had everyone doing this french skipping thing, he was funny but would of been more suited to a kids disco.

Needless to say after the preformance of the birthday girl dance when ones uncles birthday arrived I had no choice but to do it! 071.gif

As in going out with your crowd, you can guarentee that someone will grab be and I'll have no choice!!! Must try to grow a beard wacko.gif

i do it all the time
gives the party something extra

Depends on the function. Banter on the mic is always a must,. It would depend on the function / age group.

Given the right circumstances - Fun pub / club / Hen Party etc, then be as risque' as you can get away with - whether its giving out bottles of plonk for the size of their T censored.gif ts or a dare as you bare competition scared.gif . But Family occasions....maybe a dance with Auntie Maud if it was required but nothing too close to the edge. A game of Bingo would be considered a risk to health at some of the functions i've done recently!

I know what you mean crispy! But then again, I often take risks! Some of the people I have worked for you would automatically think it was not appropriate.. but even so, I still get away with it!
andrew dowding
i know what you mean
i always try and do something to get the party started
Whisky In A Vase
So what do you do? "pink, to get the party started"

I have started to put about 15 tunes together as a bit of quiz qith some silly songs that you can dance to/sing along with/ stand on the tables etc. Looks quite good with granny dancing on the table at 8.30.

What do you do?

Ah, but you're a lady and can get away with so much more than us mere men 071.gif

must admit i lead from the front espically at kids parties... when i first started out i worked for a company that supplied djs to most of the fun pubs in Blackpool so i'm use to jumping on the bar with a couple of punters and staff...use to wear shorts alot but thats a different story.... tongue.gif

paula
stupid.gif I've danced on several bars/tables/laps rolleyes.gif 071.gif

It all depends on the do but where ever possible i like to interact with the punters it gets rid of the barrier that sometimes happens at some gigs where its you and them rather you all trying to have a good time.

i am always on the dance floor when it gets chessie!!

also me and my roadie have become almost locally famous for doing the 'blame it on the boogie' dance on top or out 3 foot high speaker cabs!!

aslo one of my roadies has really long hair and people love it at the end of the night and we play BH to finish and hes infront of the strobes shaking his hair!! it goes down a storm!!

you must interact with the crown acousticly and physically thats what i think!!

kazzachi
Shaggy... you put your speakers on the floor?
The Moog
I used to do in the past - you know the usual stuff - show em' a few of the dances,,,ect biggrin.gif

Recently, however, I have become much less upfront and I tend to stay behind the decks now. I've been lucky enough to have a lot of truly amazing crowds who needed no encouragement whatsoever recently.

I'm not the most outgoing of people and won't inflict myself on them unless I know they are really up for it and the situation demands it.

I think it's something female DJs do far better than their male counterparts anyway thumbup.gif
Cheezy
I do get out and have a laugh, especially if the Timewarp is requested (so many memories from polytechnic)

Mostly the dance floor is already full, but cheeky comments can help, especially at 18/21st birthdays when "friends" offer inside info on the birthday victim!

Party On! laugh.gif
