Yes the gig is only 2.5 hours hours. Therefore I will be playing straight from the list.

Another Bride who doesn't want 'on the night - off the cuff' requests from her guests made and incorporated into the night?

I went to a wedding (brother in law) and the DJ there was also under the instruction to not accept requests.. And some of the requests were a bit odd to say the least... (In fact some other family members told me as much).

My darling daughter went up to the DJ and told him "My daddy is a DJ" too !

yep. the list is too rocky/indie for my liking and there will be no scope for requests given the tight timescale.

Sorry i'm confused now wacko.gif

Is it the clients wish that you follow their list to the letter and play as much as possible from it in the time allocated, even at the expense of ignoring and not encouraging their guests to come over to you during the night to request their own, or is it entirely your decision and you assume that is what the client wants.

Your posts don't make that clear.

I only ask, because I can imagine a scenario whereby the DJ is anxious to play as much as possible for the B&G and is turning away guests requests, some of whom go and complain to the Bride, who then comes over and complains to the DJ biggrin.gif .

Like most people i've had loads of lengthy request lists, but I always do ask the question whether the list is set in stone or is it flexible enough to allow the odd guest request too. This way, I do know that what I happen to be doing on the actual night is 100% in meeting with what the B&G want, so I can then tell / turn away the requesting guests with 100% conviction and with the blessing of the B&G biggrin.gif .

This is a 9.30 -12.00 wedding, where they didnot want to pay for an early set-up. There is a clear danger that if the wedding overruns, then the playing time could be reduced. The 42 tracks should take about 2.5 hours, giving little scope for requests. I think what has happened is that the B&G have overlooked the short time available. Now there is possibly some license here to add a few requests and drop what the DJ deems to be inappropriate tracks, but given the time available i thik this would be very limited.

Personally I'd be still asking the B&G exactly how they wanted to play it (pardon the pun), and whether they still wanted that 2.5 hours which is available to be wholly request list and absolutely nothing else, or whether they wanted a fair sprinkling of list and suitable guest requests too.

I'd also bear in mind that the fact that i've only got 2.5 hours to play with, isn't my choice or doing, it is the clients decision / budget entirely. I will of course follow the clients instructions on what to fill that time with (which is why i'm double checking with them), but I won't be feeling guilty if time runs out and i've been unable to play ALL of their requests in that time tongue.gif .

But this is only my opinion.

This gig was passed onto me soI've only got an email to work with. I will be checking with the b&g on the evening and I expect they will want to cutail the list and fit in a few guest requests

Oh yes, the famous industry Chinese whispers biggrin.gif . Always the danger of working partly blind when the Dj who passed the work on, doesn't bother with contracts or proper client communication.

Obviously you were left holding the short end of the wedge, So how did the gig go, and how much of the list did you get through?

It went well. Plenty of rock and the B&G agreed to requests despite my 10.00pm start time , meaning just 32 tracks were played over 2 hours. out of the 42 tracks on the playlist 22 were played which allowed 5 requests and 5 floor fillers which I slipped in including AC DC thumbup.gif
