Another publicity stunt me thinks !

I really couldn't give a monkeys to be honest, most probably a publicity stunt.
I can't stand either of the Gallagher brothers. One thinks he's John Lennon and the other thinks he's the greatest songwriter ever to walk to earth. Both are clearly delusional, arrogant, massively over-rated and incredibly big headed in my view.

Ditto (my opinion)

A die hard oasis fan told me he was dissapointed at the new material as it was 'status quo syndrome' and he left early at a recent gig as he was bored

Status quo also said they were retiring once and preceeded to have several end of the road tours, still going strong these days.

P.S. Oasis are a pop band NOT a rock band

However respect and sympathy to all the oasis fans out there - its not nice to see something you like give up, i felt the same when janet ellis left blue peter.

I was at V festival last Saturday which is now their final performance (supposedly), they were poor, Liam was being a kn*b (more so than normal), and the sound was really quiet. They were upstaged by James, Elbow and Snow Patrol who were all on before them. Rumours are abound they were out in Birmingham after the gig and a bit worse for wear, so when they pulled out of the Chemsford leg of V on Sunday we knew something was up as the only illness it could have been was a hangover or a case of 'Cant be Arsed'!!
I said then that they were finished!

Though in a couple of years time when they get offered a huge sum of money to do a comeback gig they will be back on stage playing together again!!

Indeed.

Perhaps they'll reform as Gallagher & Vile?!

Hi,

On the one hand, hooray - no more Oasis.

On the other, I guess we will be tourtured by endless Oasis songs on the wireless.

Didn't they split up before though....?

Cheers,

Glenn.

I'm not a fan of Oasis. I find everything about Liam Gallagher repugnant and I don't think they have released anything worth listening to for a long time. But I do think that Noel Gallagher is a gifted musician and song-writer, as well as having a better singing voice than his brother.

Whilst they aren't "bigger than Jesus", and will not have left the same imprint on the music business as the Beatles/Stones/Kinks etc, not many ever will. But they were the pioneers in a resurgence of guitar music and were key players in the last period when anyone was ever actually excited about British music.

They do have some good songs and, at a time when most music comes with in-built obsolescence, people will be listening to Oasis many years from now. In response to the news of Noel's departure, I decided to finish off my residency last night with Don't Look Back In Anger as my last song. Without exception, every person in the bar, regardless of age or gender, sang along.

Sit back and have a listen to Live Forever, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Some Might Say, Don't Look Back In Anger, Stand By Me, Little By Little, Sunday Morning Call, Acquiesce, The Masterplan and Talk Tonight. You might realise that, despite all the negative things it is easy to say about Noel Gallagher (and there are many), he has left a musical legacy that any of us would be proud of.

Yes. Agree.

I agree with Deejamitch!

I loved them in the 90's, i went to Knebworth, had all their singles etc etc

IMO
They just never changed their music style or tried anything different - Most successful bands and artists move with the times and try out new things to maintain a healthy/current sound! Liam's growl with a 3 chord guitar backing can only carry on for so long until things get very boring!

The sun will still rise in the mornings and set in the evenings

Governments will continue to lie

Taxes will still need to be paid

Money needs to be earned

all in all, whilst some die hard fans may be devestated by the news, for the vast majority of society life goes on...

Yep - you just have to roll with it...whatever, eh?! laugh.gif
