Have a Toshiba Sat A30 running Mixmeister. When I connect to my mixer ( Kam GMX5) I find the signal from the headphone socket on the Laptop is very low and basically does not have the same "poke" as the signals from my CD player or minidisc even with the volume screwed up full.
Can this be remedied , perhaps it is a software problem or is it hardware or perhaps its the quality of the MP3's ripped at 192kbs.

Okay this may be obvious but it does often get overlooked. The first thing to check is the volume settings in Windows. Click on the little speaker icon on the bottom right of the windows tool bar near to the clock.

Check that the "Master Volume" and "Wave" faders are set loud enough. I'm not familiar with your software, but there may be some overall settings for audio within there - maybe in some sort of mixer format??.

Failing that consider using an external soundcard or connect a small low power booster between your laptop and input of your mixer. However I would consider a new external soundcard first, since adding booster can increase distortion.

Have you tried using a "line" input rather than the "CD" input on your mixer. Line inputs are usually slightly lower rated inputs than the CD Ones smile.gif .

Also m8 i dunno what drivers u are running for the soundcard but check for updates as i had problems with a soundcard on a Toshiba and updated them with a later driver and that cured the prob!! Also try what chris said about the volume controls, as mentioned this is overlooked biggrin.gif

Also if u play a mp3 etc through windows then through ur software is there a dramatic difference on volume? If so the software actual main volume possibly maybe low

Hope this helps if u get stuck pm me or contact me again and i will try and help ya

cheers

Thanks Lads for your help , my volume controls were indeed set too low. I haven't tried the machine out yet through my PA but I am hopeful this will sort my problem. Thanks again. biggrin.gif

I have the same, there is a techinical way to over come this, I set up as normal, I then fade the fader up more than the CD players.

I use a Laptop for DJing and for quite some time I was not quite happy with the sound quality using the standard line out from the soundcard. Just before the Christmas rush I went and bought this: AUDIOTRAK MAYA EX7 and honestly have not looked back. It's increased the quality of the output dramatically, plus it's rather nice to use at home for any gaming, music playback....ect
