How often / how many times has one of your CD'S or equipment got "pinched"?

Also why when i mix songs, and the pitch isnt 100% correct it still sounds beatmixed? Ie i mixed a few tunes up and it sounded ok, but when i later checked the pitch bend/BPM on pc software i was from 1% to 4% out on some of them?

Also if i have to chance the pitch about 8% either way to beatmix, are the BPM to far apart?

Thanks for the help.

Wow! three questions, on two different topics in one post...this could drift off topic real quick...or maybe half as quick as other posts, as there ARE two topics to talk about...

Thankfully, I've never had a CD nicked, I've lost about 6 x 7inch singles (from the audience end of a record table) and a couple of wigs/props, but thats about it.

Your ears are THE best BPM counter everytime...if a mix sounds "right" to your ears, (when you're sober) then it IS right. Dont worry about device, or software calculated BPM's - most of them work by "listening" to a particular bass frequency eg: 120hz, or 80hz, and then they simply "count" the peaks/pulses at that frequency. Good for drums, but any other peak at the same(ish) frequency will add a few BPM's to the count eg: A drum fill-in, a rap singer yelling "yo, yo!" etc. This makes the BPM reading vary, giving an inaccurate (in musical terms) display.

Depends what you mean by "too far apart"... if you havent got "Key Adjust" or the older "Master Tempo" feature to avoid chipmunks and Darth Vaders, when pitching up or down tunes, then anything more than +/- 4% starts getting very noticable to most audiences. With Key adjust however, pitching up or down by 20% and more are possible, without too much audience recognition. (I've never played the 2003 Christmas number one at less than +30% - and it still sounded like a lullaby....)

Thankfully never had anything of any great value taken from a gig, just the once in a pub residency i used to have i lost a few chart singles which were in a separate bag. Luckily there were recent hence easy to replace, and i knew exactly what was in the bag.

Just the sensible steps and you should be ok....i often leave a rig setup overnight at my hotel residency which i suppose is a little risky, but we have night porters, secure functions rooms, etc. Would never leave anything setup in a pub tho!

Also you could replace your equipment, finance allowing, in roughly a day, your music collection on the other hand.........
