Hi all, would appreciate some answers to my thick questions if you can???

I recently bought a basic Skytech amplifier for £51.90. My enquiry is about the leads that run from it to the speakers, as I am struggling to find the ones I need to use. I have 3 speakers, one central one which will run off a 6.3mm jack plug, but the 'left' and 'right' speaker are the ones I am not so sure about. The speaker connection is also a 6.3mm jack plug, but I am not sure of the connection that goes into the back of the amplifier. Can you point me in the right direction of what I should be looking for as the instructions seem to be useless?

Thanks

i'm a little confused by the 'Centre speaker' reference

So my first question, these are proper professional PA / Disco speakers that you are trying to connect, as opposed to hi-fi ones?.

What model is the skytec amplifier?

Hi,

Yes they are pa speakers, i dont have the model numbers, but the left and right ones are McKenzie, and the large one is Q-MAX.

The amplifier is Skytec PA-240 DJ PA Amplifier 480 Watts
Dream Catchers
The PA-240 is a 2 channel amp.
You can connect a McKenzie to each side of it (either by 1/4" OR Speakon).
There isn't a facility to attach a "centre" speaker.

that amplifier is a 2 channel amp ie it drives two speakers , left and right.

It isn't designed to drive three speakers the amp has three types of connect for each speaker but only one on each channel should be used.

it has speakon , jack and binding posts so to clarify you could use speakon on left speakon on right OR jack on left jack on right OR binding post on left and right. (i bet you could mix but for clarity i wouldnt)

The amp is a very inexpensive and lower end amplifier and i certainly wouldnt try putting strange loads on it ie three speakers.

noticed jim beat me to it :)

Cheers folks. For the size of gig I am looking to do initially I think I should be fine with a basic amp, if things go well and I decide I need to upgrade, then I will over time.

I do have another amp, and that just has 2 jack outputs, though not sure how good it is, hence me getting another one so I can choose the better one.

I hope my questions aren't getting sillier, but Ive spent ages trying to search for the right leads. I would like to go with the jacks, because they would suit both amplifiers. However I am struggling to find some 6.3mm -6.3mm. Plus the speakers have 2 holes, do both need a jack in them, or can i just run a single one from the amp to the speaker?

Thanks guys.

Just use one on each speaker. The 'spare' ones are to allow speakers to be daisychained, so disregard them for your particular use.
