Hi everyone, as the title suggests I'm currently looking for PLI & equipment cover and was wondering if I could get some feedback.
A couple of questions are
1 Do any of the dj associations get discounts available with membership and if so what are the exact benefits?
2 Do the policies cover CD's
I'm based in kent if it's relevant.
Hope to get some replys.
Thanks
Vinnie

Take a look in the topic marked Insurances under the business section. It's a minefield

Not sure on with regards to discounts for dj associations, etc. Ive used E&L for my PLI insurance for a while now, and yes they will cover cds. You make a schedule of all equipment with approx replacement values and this will determine your premium.
For insuring your cds I was advised to approximate your singles and value at £3, and the same with your albums at £12-15 depending if its a single or double album.
Hope that helps

Hi Vinnie,
Musicgaurd insure your kit and CD's, with some restictions. And they also throw in a small amount of PLI cover.

Thats a useful link Mikee, they have a reasonable package and it doesnt look too astronomical for the £5 Million PLI.....unless of course someone else knows different...lol

If your looking for PLI on it's own, through the TVDJA / NADJ, we can get £2M for £100 and £5M for £150.

Cheers Mikeee
Probably looking for cover + PLI - so musicguard is looking favourite at the moment I think.
Any comments from the vetrans out there re service etc.
1 flaw I noticed was the "total loss" clause re cd's - so if someone walks off with one of my 3 cases it's not covered - anyone challenged this and if so what was the reply?
Thanks for the input everyone

I am with musicguard at the moment and i have decided to go else where due to their conditions. they really make me feel that i stand no chance of ever successfully claiming should i need to.
With regard to CD's they will only cover the whole collection for fire, flood or theft, and as i never have the whole collection stored in a single location the chances of it being all lost in one go is nill.
The only way arround this was to only insure the part of the collection that is taken to the gig and hope that someone steels the lot and not just runs off with a single case. Also this means i have to over insure them so that i can email a new list of CD's each week as CD's are added and removed from the collection. If my new list requires an increase in value then they charge £5 each time to handle the new paperwork.
The other problem i see with them is the fact that they will replace the equipment you claim for with what they regard as being the equivelent. If as in my case most of my equipment is not longer avaible new (models superceded etc.) - it is my responsibility to guess what they will replace it with and insure for the amount of the replacement. If i guess wrong and they replace it with something costing more they will penalise me by 10% - for exampe if i insure something for £500 and they replace it with something for £550 then they will only pay £450 towards it and not the full £500 as i under insured it.
My previous insurance was with FML Events Ltd. and they were much better in the following ways;
a) The insured the trailer as well
b) They insured the CDs without an inventory of each CD
c) They paid out and let you decide what to replace the items with
The only down side is they didn't include public liabilty in the cost as musicquard do and there public liabiliy insurance on its own was more than musicguards equipment and liability put together.
