How are the charts now compiled.

In the old days it was done by record sales how is it done these days?

Download charts. Which download service do they use to compile the charts as there are so many ?

I recently read that Older music from 70's - 90's was being downloaded more than current artists so how comes that these artists don't enter the download chart?

Or is it all a fix now.

I can remember listening to Radio 1 on a Sunday to the charts and again on a Tuesday afternoon when Gary Davis used to the new top 40 on his lunchtime show.
How times have changed.

The charts are compiled by "The Official UK Charts Company", a full breakdown of the criteria can be found here.
