Okay, it was mentioned over Xmas, now here is the deal smile.gif .

With the increase in UK members in the Midlands / North (we are upto 6 I think now!), talk about a meeting for a pint has appeared from time to time on various threads. In the early days, it also appeared, briefly, but there was not enough people to make it work and it fizzled out.

So, with most N.W members based in the Cheshire / Lancashire / Wirral areas how about a pint in a place with plenty of pubs and fairly central to us all.....Say Blackpool for instance?. I know TonyJ is based in that area so i'll expect him to buy the first round to make up for what he's saved on his travelling expenses smile.gif....and recommend a good pub with a large car park.

I'm also willing to provide a lift for the one or two members whom I know are just up the road from me if required.

It's mid winter, so I know that Blackpool isn't going to be the nicest place - but hey!, it never snows in the pub does it??, and better to arrange it at this time of year when D.J's workloads are relatively quiet.

My original thoughts were for one Evening in the week perhaps around early Feb?. Let me know by posting below if you would be interested.

Non locals (To the North) are welcome to join in also - Blackpool has loads of nice guesthouses (cheap at this time of year) and its not a long journey by Train or Private Jet (Paula).
DJshaggy
Sounds like a plan does that!! I know im in Blackpool at a comp around Valentines time in feb for a week but will need to do a reccy sometime so let me know and i will be htere hopefully

Regards

Ben
Chrispy
Well the date isn't set in stone - although Feb 14th is bound to be busy for D.J's and their Partners inlove.gif , but if you are there for a week, we could probably arrange it to coincide with your stay there.
Ian Stuart
I'm definately up for it ! pepsi.gif There's nothing like a light ale, cheese roll and then a toffee apple in Blackpool in Feb to get your blood going.

Ian Stuart
C.S
and as its a northern pub crawl i am expecting to see you at the local here. biggrin.gif
tonyj
think i better start saving up... looks like i'll have to buy at least 6 drinks.......lol

walkabout bar 3 bottles of reef £5..........and open till 2am
Dj_Kray
I wana come 014.gif
paula
Can you parachute Kev? I'll drop you off rolleyes.gif

(me finks me need me eyes tested! I thought this was called the Graham Norton pub crawl) wacko.gif
The Moog
I'm up for it, thanks thumbup.gif

Blackpool is just a couple of hours away from me and it's not like it's difficult finding somewhere to stay biggrin.gif

Keep me posted wine.gif
BigE
It's only an hour away for me, and i'd be up for it.

The only snag with a midweek night is that i work shifts so mightened be able to make it.

But we'll see what gets organised and take it from there.
High Fidelity
I'd love to come and join in, just trying to persuade myself that I could handle it.

I'd be no good on a pub crawl, 2 pints and I'm legless beer.gif 3 pints and I'm looking for Hughie. wacko.gif Not sure if I'd survive till 2am either (getting old now). Would have to book a days holiday from work the next day if it went on that late, unless it was somewhere with a car park - then I'd drive, not drink (which wouldn't bother me) and leave early.

The other thing that I need to be persuaded about is that as I'm not a "working" DJ yet, would I be that odd one out.

Will keep watching the thread and confirm later.
tonyj
dont worry theres plenty of good pubs out of town with car parking..... i just know that if i get my feet under the table i will end up staying out till late.....

if anyone would like to give me ideas for what you fancy doing i'll see if we can get some deals on a meal or drinks????? cant promise but i'll try....
DJshaggy
my suggestion,

drink some beer,
drink some more,
talk about the industry,
drink some beer,
drink some beer,
drink some 'hard liquor'
and then have a pie and chips,
then drink some more beer and hard liquor!

thats the idea plan lol
Chrispy
Paul...i'm not suggesting a DJU Staggering match or seeing who can drink who under the table....most of us are a long way past teenage years! biggrin.gif .

I am just suggesting a meeting place in an informal atmosphere where we can all meet each other and have a chat over a pint. I will be driving also, and no doubt not everybody will be staying over night so you won't be the only one on orange juice, the empathsis was on a place to meet and chat rather than how much beer will it take before Ben starts singing embarrassing songs! rolleyes.gif.

Don't feel left out just because you feel that you don't "fit in" with the tag of being a working D.J that really isn't important. You are a member of DJU and thats the only requirement. In other words you are more than welcome to join us.

There is no set schedule - just a chat. If the locals or those staying overnight wish, then they can go onto a club or grab a kebab later. Stay an hour or a few hours the choice is yours, I just thought that it would be a good thing if we used a central meeting place and get together, as some as the southern members have done.
High Fidelity
Just noticed that TonyJ and DJShaggy both work in schools. Did I make a mistake moving from a school to the local council!!! (God I hate my job).

Touching! but very true it will be a good get together with alot to talk about!!

Chrispy
In other words its just a sociable pint with a few collagues who are also in the business. No doubt that we will talk about the industry etc but it doesn't have to be "shop" talk all Evening.

Tony - do you know of anywhere with a car park, which also offers hotel / B&B accomodation reasonably?. Shouldn't be too difficult to find something in the tourist capitol of the NW Coast out of season lol.

Failing that i'll try and post some links of B&B's and rates for those who wish to stay overnight.

Anymore interested?.
High Fidelity
Just typical aint it.

Just had a call for what would have been my first pro booking and they wanted it on a date when I'm busy doing the sound for a show and playing in the orchestra pit that I do every year for nothing.

wallbash.gif Aaaghh
tonyj
work in school not me, i'm a simple civil servant... no not a fraud officer Chris!!!!!!

will find some links when i get home....

Glad you cleared that one up Tony....Those words of fear for any small business man kept appearing in our heads

Whereabouts in Stafford Andy?, its not that far from me.
tonyj
i would recommend the Premier Lodge at the end of the m55. loads of parking, pub and a good eatery...the outside inn.........i recommend the rack of ribs....

accommodation finder you could try this linkBlackpool Accommodation

see you all soon fear.gif
YourBigEvent
Chris I am only delivering a cake to Stafford then onto Chester via Liverpool (Man Utd are playing at Everton)
Staying the night in Chester then I have to pop to Birkenhead then hopefully home via Congleton and a pint !!

I will call you (if you answer your mobile) and arrange it when I am up there.
Chrispy
Andy - that sounds okay - P.M me closer to the Day and i'll p.m you my personal mobile number rather than the business one smile.gif .

TonyJ - Nice one, give it a few more days to see who else wants to join us, and then throw a few date suggestions around

Ian Stuart
All sounds good to me - don't mind if we stay over or go there and back in a night !

Looking forward to it...............

Ian Stuart
High Fidelity
I've decided.. thumbup.gif Count me in.
High Fidelity
Anybody had any more thoughts on this, ie., a possible date & locaton. 24th & 25th Feb would NOT be good for me.
Chrispy
I think that originally we would be going for somewere in the week leading up to Valentines Day, since one member who usually lives out of he area would be in the location for that week. Anybody want to nominate a date?
YourBigEvent
Sunday the 8th.
High Fidelity
OK with me!
kathyshack
i would proabably be up for meeting for a pint or two with my husband if thats alright? We actually do the djing together when we do it. To be honest though i would probably come via the train as the train i get back from machester after work goes staright to blackpool north. depends where in blackpool you are meeting though i suppose.....

I'll wait and see where yer meetin and when and if we can be there we will ;-)
Chrispy

Fine with me smile.gif , the more the merrier, everybody is invited if they can get themselves down to Blackpool at some point during the Evening.
Chrispy
Okay so far, the date that has been suggested would be the Evening of the 8th Feb -thats a Sunday.

Anybody able to make it?
High Fidelity
beer.gif Yup! Fine with me.
YourBigEvent
If it is the 8th I'll be there, also if loads of us were to stay at a B&B we could get a decent rate, AND we could have a drink too
YourBigEvent
And I would bring CP up on the way, as we are meeting that day anyway, and probably stay the night (DIFFERENT BEDROOMS)
High Fidelity

rolleyes.gif Good idea, but don't forget you could still be over the limit next morning.

This Hotel and only £20 a night!!!

Okay so ignore the cheesy name and think of the late bar smile.gif

Although i'm worried that this might be little bit too hot rockin' for a middle aged D.J like Ads. Looking at the pictures, even i'm going to feel old whistling.gif

Hmmmm, but suddenly I see why Ads has chosen it...

We can arrange all your entertainment before you arrive:

Okay, how about the actual meeting place for a drink??

Does the Premier Lodge which Tony mentioned, which is situated at the end of the M55 suit everybody??. WEBSITE
paula
Why on earth cant you do this is the Summer? like normal people rolleyes.gif

Apparently according to our Danny boy I have such a good eye for a nice hotel, you should let me find you one 188.gif 071.gif
High Fidelity
Just been looking at the map. They are quite a distance apart. You certainly wouldn't be able to stagger from one to the other wacko.gif . Also if people are coming by train the pub is quite a way out from the centre.

I don't know the centre of Blackpool that well so I can't suggest anything better 533.gif , but I think it would be better to have the meeting place nearer to the centre. (Where's TonyJ when you need him).
DJshaggy
the date seems ok with me! is it the stay over on the sunday or saturday night though?

Chrispy
There is no actual requirement for any stay over as such smile.gif . Anybody just wanting to visit for a chat and then drive back home can, of course, do so. Those who live out of the area, or who want to drink could plan on either making a weekend visit to Blackpool, or just drive up on the Sunday, book into a B&B for one night and then return home on the Monday Morning.

The actual pub meet itself will take place, hopefully, on the Evening of Sunday the 8th Feb.
tonyj
theres over 500 licenced establishments in Blackpool, i'm sure we can find one that suits. If you want to meet in the town centre theres plenty of street parking i just thought out of town as the quality of venue is better.........

just remember sunday = 10.30 close..... one of the funbars will be open till 12 for a donation on the door....

any question about Blackpool just pm me.....ps the Pleasure Beach is closed till March wallbash.gif
YourBigEvent
Spin, don't feel left out, I have a couple of trips to London too, one in March, and one in April too, so you can buy me a pint then tongue.gif
paula
stupid.gif urm....have you forgotten about me 014.gif
you can buy me a pint Andy biggrin.gif
kazzachi
hmmmm so the northerners are having a pub crawl eh!... well we could have a southerners soiree!
paula
Hmmmnn! huh.gif
