Okay, it was mentioned over Xmas, now here is the deal

.
With the increase in UK members in the Midlands / North (we are upto 6 I think now!), talk about a meeting for a pint has appeared from time to time on various threads. In the early days, it also appeared, briefly, but there was not enough people to make it work and it fizzled out.
So, with most N.W members based in the Cheshire / Lancashire / Wirral areas how about a pint in a place with plenty of pubs and fairly central to us all.....Say Blackpool for instance?. I know TonyJ is based in that area so i'll expect him to buy the first round to make up for what he's saved on his travelling expenses

....and recommend a good pub with a large car park.
I'm also willing to provide a lift for the one or two members whom I know are just up the road from me if required.
It's mid winter, so I know that Blackpool isn't going to be the nicest place - but hey!, it never snows in the pub does it??, and better to arrange it at this time of year when D.J's workloads are relatively quiet.
My original thoughts were for one Evening in the week perhaps around early Feb?. Let me know by posting below if you would be interested.
Non locals (To the North) are welcome to join in also - Blackpool has loads of nice guesthouses (cheap at this time of year) and its not a long journey by Train or Private Jet (Paula).

Well the date isn't set in stone - although Feb 14th is bound to be busy for D.J's and their Partners

, but if you are there for a week, we could probably arrange it to coincide with your stay there.

I'm definately up for it !

There's nothing like a light ale, cheese roll and then a toffee apple in Blackpool in Feb to get your blood going.
Ian Stuart
and as its a northern pub crawl i am expecting to see you at the local here.

I'm up for it, thanks
Blackpool is just a couple of hours away from me and it's not like it's difficult finding somewhere to stay
Keep me posted

It's only an hour away for me, and i'd be up for it.
The only snag with a midweek night is that i work shifts so mightened be able to make it.
But we'll see what gets organised and take it from there.

I'd love to come and join in, just trying to persuade myself that I could handle it.
I'd be no good on a pub crawl, 2 pints and I'm legless

3 pints and I'm looking for Hughie.

Not sure if I'd survive till 2am either (getting old now). Would have to book a days holiday from work the next day if it went on that late, unless it was somewhere with a car park - then I'd drive, not drink (which wouldn't bother me) and leave early.
The other thing that I need to be persuaded about is that as I'm not a "working" DJ yet, would I be that odd one out.
Will keep watching the thread and confirm later.

dont worry theres plenty of good pubs out of town with car parking..... i just know that if i get my feet under the table i will end up staying out till late.....
if anyone would like to give me ideas for what you fancy doing i'll see if we can get some deals on a meal or drinks????? cant promise but i'll try....

Jan 9 2004, 04:11 PM
my suggestion,
drink some beer,
drink some more,
talk about the industry,
drink some beer,
drink some beer,
drink some 'hard liquor'
and then have a pie and chips,
then drink some more beer and hard liquor!
thats the idea plan lol

Paul...i'm not suggesting a DJU Staggering match or seeing who can drink who under the table....most of us are a long way past teenage years!

.
I am just suggesting a meeting place in an informal atmosphere where we can all meet each other and have a chat over a pint. I will be driving also, and no doubt not everybody will be staying over night so you won't be the only one on orange juice, the empathsis was on a place to meet and chat rather than how much beer will it take before Ben starts singing embarrassing songs!

.
Don't feel left out just because you feel that you don't "fit in" with the tag of being a working D.J that really isn't important. You are a member of DJU and thats the only requirement. In other words you are more than welcome to join us.
There is no set schedule - just a chat. If the locals or those staying overnight wish, then they can go onto a club or grab a kebab later. Stay an hour or a few hours the choice is yours, I just thought that it would be a good thing if we used a central meeting place and get together, as some as the southern members have done.

In other words its just a sociable pint with a few collagues who are also in the business. No doubt that we will talk about the industry etc but it doesn't have to be "shop" talk all Evening.
Tony - do you know of anywhere with a car park, which also offers hotel / B&B accomodation reasonably?. Shouldn't be too difficult to find something in the tourist capitol of the NW Coast out of season lol.
Failing that i'll try and post some links of B&B's and rates for those who wish to stay overnight.
Anymore interested?.

Just typical aint it.
Just had a call for what would have been my first pro booking and they wanted it on a date when I'm busy doing the sound for a show and playing in the orchestra pit that I do every year for nothing.

Aaaghh

This Hotel and only £20 a night!!!Okay so ignore the cheesy name and think of the late bar
Although i'm worried that this might be little bit too hot rockin' for a middle aged D.J like Ads. Looking at the pictures, even i'm going to feel old

Hmmmm, but suddenly I see why Ads has chosen it...

Okay, how about the actual meeting place for a drink??
Does the Premier Lodge which Tony mentioned, which is situated at the end of the M55 suit everybody??.

Just been looking at the map. They are quite a distance apart. You certainly wouldn't be able to stagger from one to the other

. Also if people are coming by train the pub is quite a way out from the centre.
I don't know the centre of Blackpool that well so I can't suggest anything better

, but I think it would be better to have the meeting place nearer to the centre. (Where's TonyJ when you need him).

the date seems ok with me! is it the stay over on the sunday or saturday night though?
Chrispy
Jan 25 2004, 02:43 PM
There is no actual requirement for any stay over as such

. Anybody just wanting to visit for a chat and then drive back home can, of course, do so. Those who live out of the area, or who want to drink could plan on either making a weekend visit to Blackpool, or just drive up on the Sunday, book into a B&B for one night and then return home on the Monday Morning.
The actual pub meet itself will take place, hopefully, on the Evening of Sunday the 8th Feb.

theres over 500 licenced establishments in Blackpool, i'm sure we can find one that suits. If you want to meet in the town centre theres plenty of street parking i just thought out of town as the quality of venue is better.........
