Please note that people will be joining the chat at different times during the evening, so if there is nobody in the chatroom, when you visit then just call back and try again later. All members have been notified of this chat by personal message.
There is no set topic in the chatroom, but please note that all the usual forum rules with regard to posting are still applicable.

Chris is just adjusting a finely-tuned setting or two in the chatroom...
Everyone could talk to the moderator, but not chat to everyone else.

Well, once it was letting people see what everyone else was typing...it was fine.
Obviously, it would have been nicer with everyone in, who wanted to get in, but, maybe we can try again soon.
The only snag which i found was occasionally(one sent line, in 10), it didnt "notice" what you had typed in, meaning that you had to re^type it, maybe some "multi user buffer" needs to be increased for next time, to prevent that.

What the hell is a multi-user buffer???. Currently no forum chatroom is 100% effective since they rely on a number of things including the persons connection speed, PC and browser in other words - things beyond my control. MIRC is the next best option but a lot of the people on here don't have the interest or knowledge to set it up on their PC's and besides MIRC Chatrooms are full of all sorts of weirdos

so moderating it would be a nightmare. The invision chat plug in is supposedly good but I'm not going to spend $100 on a chatroom for 8 people to chat every 6 months!.
No idea what the problem was with regard to it not letting Karen in

, but I really think its a PC Problem Kazzi since the majority of others managed to access it okay - maybe time to spend some of that lovely Xmas money on a new PC??.
Not that's going to be a regular thing, the chat last night was just a one-off. I may arrange another one later in the year but for now you'll have to make do with the forum and chatting to each other on MSN.

Seems to me that using MSN for a chat session is by far and away the most sensible option. Many of us already use MSN to chat with each other and at times I've been involved in chat with 3 or 4 members of this forum.
If anyone got out of order it's a doddle to block messages from that person, or if you were really worried about 'privacy' you could set up a new email address on Hotmail and use that for the MSN chat sessions.

The only drawback with MSN is that it is limited to a maximum of 5 consecutive users. Even last night we had around 10 people logged in, and the record number for members online at the same time in previous chats was 18.
Bearing in mind that I use MSN for both business and leisure means that I can already have 3 or 4 people chatting with me at any one time and I already often have to put up "Busy" or "away" even when i'm there!.
With it limited to 5 people, it means that ultimately, people will have to pick and choose who they have in their "chat" window at any one time, which will lead to negativity and people joining mid conversation and having no record of what was the topic previous to them joining. It's also worth noting that it is impossible to block a user when invited in by somebody who is on your allow list.
We did try this before I bought the old chatroom, and those on dial up found their PC's crashing with just 3 or 4 people connected, and it was just to impractical and limited in functionality.
Good suggestion, and great for small groups of members to chat, but not a possibility as far as a community chat goes.

crispy.. think you are right.. I can even use the emoticons on occasion and I can never open links when they have been posted on a topic!

Jan 9 2004, 01:58 PM
why dont we open one of them 'msn groups' and use their chat room for things as its FREE!!
and you effectively end up with an msn chat room screen then
just an idea

Jan 9 2004, 02:03 PM
Thanks Ben, i'll look into that. Although whatever we do has to be moderated. I don't like using open Internet chatrooms since they are accessible to every passing weirdo / perv / Troublemaker and end up being a pain to moderate.
I'll go and see what the deal is.
