how do you connect up an external effects unit to the mixer for use with vocals instead of using the built in one on the mixer , spec as follows http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/PMP3000.aspx with this effects unit http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Dec02/arti...virtualizer.asp

no its all on the front , there is a jack fx send but not sure where it returns unless it goes into one of the faders after going into the effects unit , pdf manual here if it helps http://www.behringerdownload.de/PMP1000_30...7_ENG_Rev_A.pdf

[UPDATED] Are you looking at the PWR AMP INSERT jacks top right? If they are insert 1/4" jacks then you will find that send is on either the tip or ring, and return comes via the other. with the sleeve being common ground for both. (According to the manual on page 9 - RING is send, TIP is return).

You will probably need an Insert Lead (Stereo Jack to either two single Jacks or two single Phono plugs).

(I only looked at the photos, I didnt check the manual).

Behringer are good at putting their manuals online, so should give you some examples of how to connect such a similar unit up..

[ADDED] The other option is if you just want to add effects to the microphone channels only - then you could use the Insert I/O jacks for that particular channel instead...

Cheers,

i put a link to the units and manuals if you could have a look and let me know as i read the manual but dont understand how to do it , thanks, it does says words to that effect about being present at one jack though. I bacially want to use just the one mic with the external effects unit , the others can use the onboard effects .

In which case, the microphone channel you wish to use the effects on you would need to use an Insert Jack lead going from the channel Insert I/O Jack (Stereo 1/4 jack) on the mixer to two Mono Jack plugs. The jack plugs - one (Send) would go into the left channel IN of the effects unit, the other Jack (Return), would be plugged into the Left channel "OUT" of the effects unit.

Can someone else confirm/deny this too?

Cheers

one thing to be noted with this effects units is if you go straight into it first with a wired mic then to the mixer its quiet , fine with a radio mic as that has a pre amp(vol) buit into the reciever.

Simple approach - If the unit is intended for effects only with one mic use, I would imagine that you merely plug a mic into the Behringer Virtualizer Pro, and then plug the unit into one of the mixers channels, because it is effectively a sound source (i.e. the mic is a sound source)

If on the other hand you desire to apply effects to ALL sound sources in the mixer, then perhaps the send return option is better, although the output might sound a bit funny if the music source and mics plugged directly into the mixer has effects added! smile.gif
