I guess there are tonnes of Megamixes out there. For me there are only a few tried & tested ones that work really well. Here are some of the VERY BEST ONES that "work" everytime >>

These mixes seem to work really well right across the age spectrum. I think Tom Newton who mixed the first 2 listings has to be the best megamixer out there.

Care to share any other megamixes that WORK WELL [No1 criteria].

Grease, it's the only one I EVER play, I don't like them.

UB40 one is the one i always play while marking quizzes or collecting papers
and the dirty dancing one and as back ground i use a Saturday night soul one..thats it no others really

A month or two ago the Mastermix issue had a Michael Jackson Retro Mix, a very well put together 15 minutes that I have played 5 times in the last 4 days.

I play Grease and 80's Past Pop Megamix off Jock In The Box 3 :)

Mixes are fine when you are starting out as a DJ as it gives you plenty of time to find requests, sort out later tracks etc but after a while you should be able to mix the tracks yourself anyway.

I still have a case full of old mastermix CDs and don't want to get rid of them but can't remember the last time I bothered to take them with me.

Same here. I did find the DMC Michael Jackson mix (11min?) on the Earth Song CD single (which my wife would ahve bought at the time). It's OK, but tbh wasn't that bowled over by it. It sounded a bit on the slow side, and needs needs the pitch control adjusting slightly :)

I do have a few Stars on 45 mixes (Abba/ Beatles), which are err ok, but tbh they get going then they change track. Slightly frustrating imho if you're attempting to sing along!

Only tend to use the grease mix tried several over the years and they usually kill the dancefloor, they seem to get fed up with them too quickly not bothered with them since although ive actually got loads from over the years.

I have found there is a stigma about playing megamixes or embarrassment from some DJ's.

Whilst I am not overkeen playing them, I do get requests to play them.

More recently the Abba megemix has become popluar.

Well I only use Grease megamix, have tried the DMC Michael Jackson mix but its a little slow.
I found that the Guests just start getting into a song then it changes. Then you get bombarded with can you play the proper version of blah blah, they me good for a comfort break if they are long enough but on the whole I wouldn't play them.

I guess as long as you dont play too many megamixes especially in a back to back sequence which i'd never do , if you use any of the 3 megamixes i recommend above you won't go wrong. All the ones i've listed are quite hard to get & only aailable on the dj only cds like mastermix or dmc. I've heard tonnes that don't or won't work sometimes for many reasons like:


1.the length of the megamix [not more than 12mins is best]

2.song choice [a porker of a song somewhere in the mix that ruins everything either it dosent fit in beat wise or isnt a well known track]

3. songs in the mix not long enough [about 2mins per song is about right]



About the MJ megamixes that some are referring too..The best one i heard was on a DMC compile different from the DMC mix on the Earth cd single . The one i'm referring to started off with Billie jean, rock with you, off the wall, dont stop till u get enough,shake your body down,blame it on the boogie, thriller then finishing on Billie jean...This mix was around 11mins long.
Someone mentioned they prefer to mix the songs themselves , uhmm maybe true sometimes but many megamixes are sequenced very professionally sometimes with a computer & it would be next to "near impossible" to get it "right" on the fly..

Yep - the mix supreme Mr Tom Newton. Pity 'master mix' didn't keep hold of him.

When I'm using the CD decks, happy to mix myself. But when I'm setting up, I might stick on a background mix disc with retarded bass (eq) such as a Grandmaster before I'm ready to blow their minds! LOL!

no, it's the mastermix version, and very good it is too. Played it about 6 times last year, the older folk tend to prefer it. ladts about 7 mins so not too long.

Whilst I'm not a fan of megamixes they are good for that little boys room break due to their length.
I use, like most I guess the Grease one at almost evetry wedding, I think people expect to hear it along with other chessy stuff at weddings. Abba gets a run out sometime and I've even been asked for the Five megamix a couple of times. I thinks it's on a CD single of theirs as a bouns track.

I find with megamixes people start dancing and then the song changes after 1 1/2 minutes and peopleseem disapointed .

The last two times I played a Megamix (Grease and the 1979 one) it cleared the dancefloor.

I have stayed off Megamixes so far this year.

I guess they are no different to any other track and depend upon the right crowd and the right mood.

Megamixes are only of loo break value to the CD jocks.

Me, I just queue up my tracks on the Pioneer and depending on whether I'm there or not either mix them manually or let the microchip take the strain.

It's interesting to note that the only really famous Megamix is the Grease one. Personally I agree with the earlier post and just as a dancer gets into the track it skips to another and they get dissappointed.

As you've guessed, don't like them and wouldn't mourn their demise.
