The old cunundrum.

Did an 80's night Saturday.. ..was on banging form.I was so good I wished I was watching me......LOL.

However wondered how other Karaoke Hosts deal with this poser.

Bags of requests for Karaoke but everytime I put the 80's tracks on between the singers the dance floor was absolutely heaving.

Usually go with the one Karaoke and two for dancing formula on these nights but they were so gagging to dance I decided to go with the majority and thinned out the formula to 1/5.

Cue complaints from the singers wanting their 3 minutes of fame.

I cannot believe how remarkably rude and selfish people are in this situation
......and how remarkably rude I can be back to them.

The organizer could hardly stand so consulting him wasn't the answer for any advice.

well i cheat lol i ask my known singers who put requests in to sing there dancy numbers i subtly suggest .. oh i tell you what this lot would love... your " X" etc , flatter them or say have you ever thought of singing such and such song ? and get them to sing a song you might have played.

If this doesnt work i do tend to go 1 karaoke song for three dance tunes ONLY if i have enough dancers some of my karaoke nights as so full with singers i dont even play songs in between i do have dancers to karaoke singers though on those nights

For me personally those nights do not appeal

I am a specialist karaoke service 90% of the time and my nights are billed as such... as you said "Did an 80's night Saturday" so im guesing karaoke was a secondary thing so i would have gone with what was advertised if it was a 80's night most people would i think expect more 80's music than 80's karaoke and i would have done what you did

I've never done an 80's only night For me personally those nights do not appeal.

I'm sure you manage it ok but I never seem to get things quite right as a mobile Karaoke Host.

Eventually when I move abroad I may buy a bar and do it properly.Everytime i've seen Karaoke done it works better when the gear is permanently at the venue professionally installed. With that in mind I'll probably stay 20% Karaoke and 80% Disco.

I can't dance & I cant sing.

As for Karaoke haven't had the demand for it, if we need it we usually hire someone in.
As for the best I saw a Ex US Marine who had a bar in Jamacia (Ochos Rios) and boy could he sing seemed that everyone who took part could sing very well unlike most of the people I have heard in the UK. (No offence to the British Public).

There's no right answer unfortunately. I've tried thinning out the singers, I've tried making the last hour music only with no karaoke, I've tried winging it in every way possible. Results will always be mixed but, no matter you do, there will be complaints.

Hmmm never heard of knives , guns or baseball bats kosh's, bottles around the back or the head when your not looking.. or even worse there girlfriends with stilettos held with a knifing motion akin to the scene in the psycho. Here in chav ville i mean Manchester, physical size doesnt really matter , some of the meanest gangsters are short arses but its what they are willing to do to others that sets them apart. just be careful , people dont fight with honour and with decency any more they often fight like they are playing GTA.

Personally i try not to argue with them , i have a laugh and joke my way out of it , i know this is not possible all the time.

On saturday i had one guy who has done this before who comes up and trys joining in with people when they are singing a song which can only really sound good as a solo and is the singers party piece . a said no and he started saying i was selfish the singer was selfish so while i played a record i said we need a chat.

I said imagine your at the bar and you have waited 20 minutes and you finally get served your round of drinks then someone comes up to the bar and take one of the drinks how would you feel ? that's what you do when you walk up and try to take a singers song... there was a pause and he said i never thought of it like that ! sorry!

anyway off topic a bit but be careful arguing with people
exbutlinred82
I bow to your diplomacy Robster.

Little bit harder when your speakers are full on and youre trying to educate the uneducatable.

I'm sober..they are drunk....end of!!

Thanks for the warnings....believe in fate tho!!
