Hiya mate,
These battle / scratch / break records, also called sample records, etc are aimed mainly at the hip hop dj battle kind of scene, Technics DMC World finals for example. Battle records usually consist of both beats / breaks and scratch samples. The beats and breaks are usually fairly minimilistic and are for beat juggling, eg creating a new track from two records by quickly changing between each record being played (one record on each turntable).
Scratch samples are what you will generally hear djs using for scratching....the typical fresh, aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, f**k it, hey dj, im sure youve heard many more
There are loads of producers of these records, including Battle Breaks, Stones Throw, DJ Rectangle, This Is For The Dj series, Death By A 1000 Cuts, etc
If youre into your hip hop or just curious of what noises you can make from two records

its worth tracking down a few of the world final DVD's or vids
Hope that helps, let us know if u want any more info
Steve
