Best version I've heard is by Chas n Dave. It's a right ol' knees-up
Better than most of the slow boring versions I've heard
I don't know how anyone could even THINK of playing that awful version by The Festival Singers; christ, the crowd would be asleep by the end of it

Festival Singers version is ok, theres also a calypso version which I used to use.
The best selection that I've got however, is on the Occasions Jingle CD which I've picked up along the way from some Disco outlet or another. Its got about 16 versions, from "traditional" to "Rock guitar version" with various Waltz and "big band" type versions too.
Big hint: Drop the playing speed/pitch of any version of "Auld Ang syne" by about 2%~4% to allow for the revellers to keep up, they'll always be a beat or two behind, but at least this gives 'em a bit of a chance.
By the way...for those who fancy a "Live radio link up" (cough, splutter) with Big Ben, Radio 2 (88 - 90.2 FM) are doing the honours this evening - if you venues got good radio reception that is !!!. Simply connect the Radios headfone outlet to a suitable lead, and into a Line Level, Tape in, or Mic in (start the Gain off really low to test this before the audience get in). Then, inbetween your other tunes from around 11:55pm, keep an ear on the radio input and fade up the channel as close as you dare to 11:59:35secs, to allow the pre-bongs to be heard over the top of the track.
(Next: keep your fingers crossed that you dont get the Radio 2 presenter yakking all over the top of the chimes..."ooch aye the Nu year")

Im just doing a new 12 o clock minidisc at the mo...
Gary, you mentioned the "pre bongs" ive got a sample of these chimes on an old dj box cd that im going to use....do the pre bongs start say 25 secs before new year. Last year i used just the 12 chimes which followed a 10-1 count down i did from the teletext clock!
Thanks,
Hope everyone has a good one!!!

If you want Big Ben without any interferance from over zealous presenters - Radio 4, about a 5 sec break before and after. Due to bad radio reception I have to do it off CD.
