Ok, I got a dumb question, I'm shure... But - I've been told by a few people to get crossover?
Eh, I know kind of alot about everything I have, And stuff I've used before, But - Never used a crossover.
I guess I need one, But I don't know how one work's, And by this I mean how to hook one up?

I'm also told that Rane AC 22B is the best crossover... As it's for JBL.

Could someone tell me how to hook one up, Or give me a site to read about how to hook one up?

Thank's alot. wallbash.gif

Crossovers divide the sound signal into the woofer (bass) and (treble) tweeters/horn If you connected a tweeter or horn without a crossover to the output from your amp then you will blow the tweeter as you was sending the fullrange signal to it without the sound frequncies being divided between bass and treble. But run a woofer directly from amp without blowing it.

There are mainy different crossovers out there which divide the sound up to different groups for each piece of sound making compoment. Two way, Three way or even four way.

Active crossovers are slightly differnt. I pressume thats what you mean as Rane make active crossovers. They get conected in this way. From the mixer to the crossover then too two different amps (one for the bass or Sub, Bass bins ect and one for the tops or fullrange speakers) So as you see the get conected before the amps in the 'line' link.

Adavtages for active crossovers are:

Better sound
more headroom in amps

Disavatages:

Expensive way
needing more then one amp to make it work

Very hard for me to explain!

Eh, Well... I have one amp pushing my four 18 inch woofer's, And then another pushing four 15 inch sub's along with two tweeter's, But them have a crossover already in them.
So, Do I really need a crossover?

And thank you for your help! Much needed! smile.gif

I guess your 18" woofers are in 4 seperate cab's, and you have 15"bass drivers/tweeters in the 4 other cab's. These then run off of 2 amps, one powering the 4 woofers, and the other powering the 4 15" cabs.

If this is your set-up, you must already have a crossover to allow the 15"/tweeters to handle higher end frequencies and 18"s to handle bass.

I'm confused-lol wacko.gif

BTW the 15" would have a crossover built in to divide the signals to tweeter and bass driver.

You about had it right. LOL
Um, I have two 18's in one cab, And another 2 in another cab.

And then same with the 15's, Two in each.
And yes, The dual 15's, (JBL SF-25's) Say they have a crossover already in it. So, I shouldn't need another crossover do I?

With due respect, if you need to be asking what a crossover is and does, you shouldn't be thinking about playing about with your P.A

LOL - just my blunt and direct nature I often don't mean offence by it hence the "With respect" which often preceeds a rant smile.gif . Besides I prefer to be honest and truthful with people based on their abilities. I could have so easily have said...

Yes you certainly do need one and I'm happy to sell you one for £XXX....

No doubt that the next post would be..."How do I set this up and what do all these controls do" 533.gif

Chris... Thank's for your help! Now, I only have one more question...

How do I set this up!? And what do all these controls do?

biggrin.gif

It's ok... I found out how to set one up, And I think I can put two screw's in it, To mount it in my case... But, I don't feel I need one, With crossover's in my SF-25's... Both them and the bass bin's are different amp's...
