I would beg to differ, the unit uses a 250w metal discharge lamp with a colour temperature of 6000 Kelvin, if yours is dim it probably has the wrong lamp or a chinese lamp fitted otherwise the lamp is on it's way out, or the colour wheel is dirty. I run a couple on the big rig and they're plenty bright enough

They suffer from optics that get dirty very quickly, not such a problem on a mobile where they're up and down each night and can be cleaned, and may do duty in clean hotels or village halls, but in a club or pub installation with a smoke machine, they dim-out very quickly without routine cleaning. To be fair, many barrels installed will do this as well. Unlike the CDM lamps, the MSR250 seems to get dimmer and dimmer until it starts to cycle before failing; barrels with CDM lamps tend to run brightly until the lamp fails.

Just clarifying here but I assume Philips CDM, GE MBI and Osram HSD are all compatible ie the same bulb/lamp?
superstardeejay
No. The Zap there takes the MSD250 which is made by various people. Many barrels and other discharge effects use the 150W lamp, either the Philips CDM150, GE arcstream, HID, HIT, CSS etc. Just because a fixture uses the MSD250 doesnt mean its going to be brighter than another that uses a 150W lamp, particularly if its the Philips (CDM) or GE Arcstream (MBI). The CDM in particular is a very long lasting lamp that will outlive the MSD250, (at least most of the ones at reasonable prices..philips make this one as well!) is cheaper to replace and doesnt fade so much as it gets older...the MSD's seem to fade rather quickly.

Then again, they're different technologies. If in doubt, try it out!!

Are you suggesting you can replace the MSD250 lamp with a CDM150 lamp in a SynchroZap and it will work, be brighter and last longer?

Yep i'm confused as well. 533.gif

Sorry, no that's not what I mean. What I was hinting was that if you see a different effect with a 150W lamp in, (eg CDM150) then it won't necessarily be dimmer than an effect with an MSD250..and therefore is well worthy of consideration as well.

Or, in other words, don't get bowled over by the boast of an MSD250 lamp, because alot of the cheaper effects use the 150W with similar results!

I did almost confuse myself there as well.

It's not particulary cheap, but in the condition it/they were in, it wasn't expensive either, I missed it by a tenner, but there will always be another one.

I didn't bid on it, but there's another on ebay for £220 in think
