Well I should be getting my decks this weekend!!!

Recently I've been thinking about getting a sony net MD to record sets on the go. Any comments about Sony Net MD's or other mp3 devices that offer the same function of being able to record a set straight off your decks? I was thinking it'd be cool if there was a cd device that could burn a set onto a cd live as you were playing it smile.gif

I currently have a Panasonic SV-SD80 mp3 player, doubt I'd get that much for selling it. Maybe I should just stick to using the computer to record my set(s). I recall how one of you was saying they used 'sound recorder' on windows I assume. Is that good enough?

hello there

about the cd recorders ... there are such things around, but weather you can record them live, as you can with a tape deck, i am not so sure.

as for recording with the computer, that is what i have always done so far, with the exception of tape on the odd occasion.

As i also do internet radio, i have always ticked the "mixed output" in windows mixer record section, which enables both mp3 and line input (the external sound system) to be ran through the pc.

When it comes to the software, i have tried 2 items. Cool Edit Pro and Goldwave.

i have found Cool Edit Pro to be the more reliable of the 2.

Finaly, if portablity is an issue, i know many who have attached a laptop to their system as a recording device, when out and about.

I hope this has helped you

take care for now

hi there
i got a sony net md walkman MZ-N707 type-R MDLP its a good minidisc you can record a hell of a lot of songs on to a disc i think you can record 2-3 albums on one disc.

with this you have software with it and you can record songs off your computor that you have downloaded and also off cd's aswell and you can record off your standard hifi via the headphones socket.

you can also plug it in to your output on your mixer and play it like a normal cd player.

it is a very good md its not complicated but it is £250 but its good for its price

hope this helped u A J Sounds 042.gif

I believe that this model is now discontinued. However if you want a bargain there is one available on Amazons Sale section for £105.00 Here!

what do u think of it chris and have u got a md?

I do have an MD but a very old conventional SONY and not one of the newer NET range. However there have been some very good reports on this model if you look around the internet, and you can't really go wrong with any consumer equipment with SONY on it.

There is always a little risk with buying any product which has been discontinued, since obviously it is no longer supported by the manufacturer, however spares can usually be obtained from distributors for a few years after its last production date. There are of course, several NET MD products by SONY still in production.

If your asking me about NET MD's in general, then I must admit that I have never owned one, but they do have some good reviews, although these are often by consumers, so I wouldn't know how they would fair in a D.J'ing environment.

If somebody asked me for a way in which I could cut down on the number of CD's I carry around, then the PC / Laptop approach would always be my 1st piece of advice. Although I suppose that if that wasn't viable then NET MD would be another consideration. Although I would certainly ask advice from D.J's who own / use one already before I parted with £200 - £300.

I own a net minidisk 505 its pretty much the same as the 707 and its great i mainly use it for the gym and to record minidisks for my car i would say if you have the money buy a i pod although im not sure if you can record direct on to them i think you can. otherwise stick to recording direct to your pc harddrive then burn a cd but if you need to record a mix away from your pc def get a net mini disk i hope this helps a bit 533.gif

also with the md you can record yourself djing live just incase any one would like to here you lol!! and you can add a microphone toit and speak on it etc quite alot of useful things!

but i must agree with you chris if i had the money right now i wouldbuy a laptop would you need a top of he range laptop or does a normal, maybe second hand???? would that do the job???
The Spindoctor
You don't need a top of the range or anything too flashy, I have been using two laptops for the past 2 years with AMD 850 processors 6gig harddrives (now use external too for extra storage) running Windows ME and have never had a problem to date!

Golden rule as always is buy as much ram as you can afford and also don't use it for anything else other than your music........... NO games NO diary nothing!
