A bit drastic perhaps. Yes the starting out legitmately is a very good idea and the right decision. Most D.J's do use a Laptop and Mp3's but these are derived from the original discs. It is still a grey area over the legality of doing this, but it is not out and out 100% illegal with the risks, as you were doing using copies and Mp3's of material you bought cheaply or downloaded.

With regard to the choice of music, I am assuming that you are doing disco's for young people, otherwise you will need to add a good selection of Party, Cheese, and 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, old skool, motown, rock'n'roll etc etc for all ages.

These that you have indicated don't really cover these genres, but it is a step in the right direction to building up a cd collection for "family" functions. smile.gif

I think to go on and on and on about the legit legal position of CD copying is exhausted.

Apparently, this year, the 'top' selling gadget is the iPod - store 10,000 songs on a digital media device.

How do you store the songs?

Enuff said.

If you 'back-up' your original CD's - why destroy the 'backup's'????

However - if you carry around lots of 'illegal' CD copies of 'downloaded' tracks - then it becomes a less 'grey' area, and more of a 'reddish' area!

Before you 'destroy' all your 'valuable' material, I suggest that you obtain the original source material first, if possible. You can use the 'backed-up' discs as 'resource' information, and then 'dispose' of this material if you really want to - later on.

My 4d worth!
