Next week I have a party and they want me to play a bit of Ragga

Aside from the obvious Sean Paul I wouldn't know what to play, so help me out guys.

Also my Reggae collection is a bit poor, so please advise of any really great Reggae track that people can dance to (obvously not the really slow stuff, more upbeat please)

Hey there. Not too well up on the ragga ,although you could try "ragga twins".
As for upbeat reggae ,well join the club ,it's mostly not upbeat eh !

Bridging the gap between reggae and dance, try "dreadzone" ( if you havn't already) ,Check out their version of "ali baba" found on the "biological radio " album .
Also Their best two album's "sound" & "once upon a time in jamaica" . Some awesome tune's to be had there, reggae infused party !!!

Maybe a bit of "Apache Indian" -Dancehall ,not to far removed from ragga & reggae. He did a wicked version of "The Isrealites" Along with Desmond Decker.
Some "Gladiators" Is really top drawer stuff in the root's reggae section , Try "Trenchtown Mix Up" ,Their classic 1977 album. Melt away reggae.

"The Bombay Dub Orchestra" did a great version of Bob Marley's "Lively Up Yourself"
"Ray Darwin"--Peoples Choice. A nice upbeat reggae tune.
"Ras Mcbean"--The Price Of Jah Love. Similar vibe again.

If they like a bit of commrcial stuff ,try out the unnoficial reggae remix of Rhianna's "umbrella" Ft Collie Budz -Or indeed the official version Ft Shaggy. Reggae versions are better than the hit version !

Barrington Levy- "Dangerous" (joyride riddim).
Chuck Fender--Living Fire, Really nice number.

The pool of reggae is just so enormous, i could go on all day, But i won't .

There's a few leads anyway. cool.gif Good Luck.

There is a vast amount of ragga/reggae to choose from depending on what sort of era you want to go with.

Some good old tracks that go down well are:

Buju Banton- Walk like a champion or girl flex (never play boom bye bye though)

Shabba Ranks- Mr Loverman, Trailer load of girls, Wicked in Bed

Supercat- Ghetto red hot, My girl Josephine, Don Dada

Mr Vegas- Heads High

Also have a listen to Capleton,Cocoa Tea, Sizzla, Beenie man.

If they want some reggae as well i would definetly play a couple of beres hammond tracks,The two i play are : Tempted To Touch and Who say

Theres some to get you started if you need anymore let me know and ill look at my playlists when i get 5

Good Luck

Cheers for this. This and a few tracks which I managed to locate should give me enough to go with.

Also check out some of the European Reggae Comps always full of great stuff, also comps by Greensleeves and VP always packed with great Ragga and Reggae tunes, and normally at a bargain price too.

One mail order I would highly value is Dub Vendor in London, they also do mail order as well! I have been dealing with them for over 30 years, always top tunes and great service too!

Also there is a killer reggae version of Alicia Keys you don't know me...always works for me, along with the usual UB40 and Denis Brown etc etc
