after replacing another couple of bulbs (good job they are all 250w bulbs, but at £10 each this is getting expensive)

Glad you had a good one, it is suprising how smaller amps and speakers can still cope with these type halls, but you'll know next time how big it is (perhaps hire/borrow an amp and another pair of speakers) another point of course is to ask to see the venue in advance even if it is only a flying 2 minute look round.

I'm sure Chris is thinking the same as me as regards bulbs though, why are you having to replace so many? most of my light effects use 250w bulbs yet I am having a bad time if i replace more than 2-3 in a year!

I am planning on getting a larger Amp & speakers as soon as I can afford them, but at the moment with nothing booked for the New Year this may take some time.
As for the bulbs, I have a XTC & a wild blaze which use A1/223 250w bulbs these haven’t been a problem only one has been changed after 2 years of use.
But the 2 Puma’s & the Spin master all use A1/259 bulbs, all these lights are only a couple of months old & every bulb has had to be replaced so far.
I saw Chris advertising long life A1/259 bulbs so I tried to ring him, but only got his answer phone (At this time of the year I assumed he was busy doing gigs) So I tried to place an order on his web site, but for some reason I couldn’t see the order buttons. My father tried from work and didn’t have this problem & placed an order. But when he looked back at this forum Chris had posted that he was now out of stock. (DOH) I’ll just have to wait to see if I get any of the few he is expecting in a little later (If not I’ll have to look elsewhere for long life bulbs).

It is surprising how sound travels, and in an empty space , with walls, there is nothing to stop it, exept the walls which rebounds it anyway.

Like most people December is my busiest time of year and not only do I have CSL orders to pack and despatch but also a busy Mobile Roadshow and DJ Youth Workshop to run, so being sat by a phone is considered a luxury for me at the moment.

Like most sole traders I can't be in three places at once, but unlike most conventional high street retailers, I can be contacted upto 10PM and I am not opposed to calls on Sundays Either!.

Like most mail order outlets, the majority of my business is done online - this is where you make the vast saving on price!, there is a checkout on my website, and if you are a forum member then simply state the fact on the "message" section of the order form and any forum discount will be applied. All orders are entered manually so prices can be changed accordingly from those on the website, if I am offering a discount on a certain product here on DJU.

Other than that, I check my emails as often as possible, with notification of them and forum messages being sent to my mobile by Text. I also have mobile internet access so I monitor this forum and emails quite frequently.

Special offers are just that, often VERY limited in stock and rarely repeated. If you see an item on the forum or site that you are interested in then buy it!, don't leave it a day or so because they will be gone!. Special offers often sell out within 48 hours of them being advertised and always within a week. The reason? - Some Manufacturers don't like their products being sold off cheaply, so they enforce a limit as to how many can be sold at a "Discount". Other products such as the lamps are only available once or twice a year or may even be a "one off" purchase. Those who are quick will get a bargain and those who hesitate will be disappointed. Besides, if I sold at this price every day I would go out of business very quickly, believe it or not there isn't much profit on a £4.00 long life lamp, considering some high street outlets sell the standard 50 hour version for upto £10 each! smile.gif .

Depends on what they are used in. If you are using effects from the cheaper end of the market then there will be no form of lamp life extender built in. A standard ELC 250W lamp has a rated life of 50 hours. Thats around 10 gigs for most D.J's scared.gif . Effects such as the Datamoon and some Constella, Martin and Abstract effects have lamp life extenders (The bulb is run at a slightly reduced voltage) which extend a 50 hour lamp to 150 - 250 hours smile.gif . This is one of the reasons why these 300 Hour Lamps I had, sold so quickly - you would get between 1000 - 2000 hours using one of these in a Datamoon for example or even 300 hours from cheap effects units smile.gif.

I have another few hundred of the longlife lamps arriving between Xmas and New year, then that will be the end of them until around this time next year. So if you want any then be quick!.

I really think that it is the luck of the draw where bulbs are concerned... I can replace a bulb, take it out for two gigs and then its gone..... but on the other hand, I might not have to replace another bulb for a couple of years. The only thing that irritates me is that there is no comeback - I have never found a supplier who is happy to give me a refund or replace a bulb when it has only been used a couple of times and blown!

It's classed as a consumable Kaz thats why, and legally not subject to any warranty similar to Styli, Cartridges, and some Mixer Faders.

Besides it's very difficult to prove a claim, what would stop you putting the old bulb in the box and asking for credit? there are 1000's of liberty takers out there, not to mention those who touch replacement lamps with their bare hands, spill champaign over them, or switch them on directly from cold meaning all of which will blow a new bulb immediately.

I've also lost count of the number of D.J's who have attempted to send back a lighting effect for repair / credit which has just got a blown bulb in it!! rolleyes.gif

I know what you are saying crispy - which is why I have never bothered to take one back... but it is frustrating - fortunately, my bulbs dont cost me a penny these days (thanks to husbands job) so I only ever have to buy them in emergencies - which aint that often now!

Karen, I'll have 100 at that price please
