Has anyone ever asked for a "go" on your decks? I use mp3 software but also own CD decks, and sometimes total strangers ask for a go on my decks. Some "kids" think they are cool and think it is dead easy but...

Yup loads of times. Going from past experiences most of the time its young (drunk) lads trying to impress girls who are totally not interested in them. Sorry to be sexist there but thats how i see it, but what do i know? lol

Yes, all of the time

. Usually a cold stare and a firmly spoken "Sod Off" does the trick!
Welcome to the DJU Forums by the way!

Hi mp3dj,
I don't think you need to be in this business for long before someone comes along and wants a go - well, that's what I've found.
It doesn't matter what the venue is; club, pub or private function there's a chance you will get one of the 'wannabe DJs.'
DJing is just one of those professions that attract the wannabe DJs.
I've found that for some reason the wannabe DJs come over to ask for a song, a song that I have to say is usually inappropriate for the venue/function (Greenday for example). When you inform them that in these circumstances you are not permitted to play offensive material they come up with the line: "Well, I'm a DJ and I play it."
Sometimes you just have to grin and bear their ignorance and arrogance... while grinding you're teeth together!
If I were to let them have a 'go' they'd either s**t themselves or break the gear... that's why I just try to appease them... or just get rid of them (depending on how pushy they are).

My normal reply is a polite " Have you got £x Public Liability Insurance"? "No"? "Oh I'm so sorry but unless you are insured you cannot possibily operate this equipment in case you injure somebody"?
To the smart ar$e who replies "Of course I have, Im a DJ too" "Show me your certificate and of course you can have a go"
(One day somebody is gonna produce one) but till then............

Never during a show. Anyone in the audience wouldnt know that it wasnt me making the mistakes/garn awful noise.
However, whilst all the gears been set-up at the one venue for the last month (gosh it feels longer), if any of the staff want a play BEFORE the punters start milling around, then thats ok (at low volumes)

It's funny that innit, cos you'd think it'd be coal mining or road sweeping or somethink that'd attract the wannabe dj's

the answeer to this is easy, when they apporach you being the big "hot DJ" that works in superclubs etc, just tell them
" IF YOU WERE THAT GOOD, YOU WOULD BE OUT WORKING TONIGHT, NOT PESTERING ME"
i say it all the time and 99% of them will hang their head and walk off, the other 1% want to fight with you but its one of the things you gotta put up with!!!

hi there ...
since i host an internet radio station alongside the DJing buisness, i have my DJ gear set up in my bedroom whenever it is "out of action" in preperatrion of a gig.
I often get my brothers friends asking me for a go, which i have foolishly let them, as they have scratched 1 or 2 of my best records. oh well, guess i learnt the hard way.
anyway
take care fore now
