Now then all. for some reason, the deck I have on the left will play the record perfectly, but the deck on the right has a fault. When the record is played it sounds like the volume is going up and down? Is it something to do with the needle or because I hammer that deck when 'trying' to scratch?
Chrispy
Yes, first thing to check is the styli (needle) and the cartridge (the fitting which holds the "needle") these are usually the first things to wear on a turntable, although the styli is most likely to be the problem smile.gif .

You can check this easily enough before buying replacements, by simply swapping it over with the one on your other turntable. If it cures the problem then you know which bit to buy.

Try replacing the styli first, then if that fails swap over the cartridge as well.

or failing that.. could it be one channel on your mixer?

or a lead problem?

Nice 1 lads, I'm on the case. Might even be worth chucking them out my bedroom windown, but lets take things 1 at a time, cheers! biggrin.gif

I sometimes had problems with the deck I used to "hammer".

I found that the cartridge and stylus used to seperate slightly.

Make sure good contact is made between the two. Also check the wiring connections to it.

Maybe you have more wax in your right ear than your left ear tongue.gif

No a swapped the cartridge about and there defo fu**ed. Looks like the pin has bent and the record kind of goes around at a dodgy angle, bag of ****. l look for some new decks after christmas!
McCardle
you dont need new decks just because your styli is shot. buy a new styli or better still upgrade to a better styli.
