Hi
Basically, depends largely on what type of DJ you want to be.
If you want to club DJ / beat-mix music, then control on the CD player is very personal - you have to try the CD player features before you buy, check out how you get on with the players!
You may like the feel of one type of CD player than another.
Same for mixer - try the cross fader, see if you can try out various CD players connected with the mixer.
If you only wish to use 2 x CD players, then perhaps a mixer with 2 x channels may be adequate, however, if you intend to add extra music sources (3x CD players) then maybe a 4x channel mixer would be better?
What models have you looked at / thought about so far?

What is your budget? For CD Players you can get either separate ones or a twin cd player. The latter is generally cheaper but if you are used to using decks or prefer the layout of separate ones then there are some very good separate CD Players around. I would definetely look for instant start/cue and anti-shock in your CD Player, anything else depends on how you want to use them and your budget. For your mixer you should look for separate EQ on each channel and ideally on the mic channel(s) too. It is good to look at the mixer itself as well as the specs, as an easy to use mixer is a good thing, especially for a newbie and of course make sure that the mixer has sufficient inputs and outputs for how you plan to use it. Try the avoid the very cheapest of CD Players and Mixers, as, in most cases, if you use them regularly, they will only last about a year. Generally with very cheap mixers, the crossfader will wear out easily, which is a pain, especially if it decides to give up in the middle of a gig.
So, I decided for the CDJ Pioneer 200s. But I'm still in doubt about the mixer. These are what I've found so far:
- Numark Matrix 2 (http://www.platinum-records.com/NUMARK-MATRIX2-prod5954.htm)
- Stanton 201 (http://www.stantondj.com/v2/prod_m201.asp#)
- M-Audio X-Session Pro (http://www.stantondj.com/v2/prod_s250.asp)
- Numark DM950 (http://www.numark.com/dm950)
The DM950 is the cheapest one, but it doesn't have separate EQ on each channel...
Thanks
