After two successful years at Donington Park BPM is moving to the internationally renowned NEC for 2009. The move will allow the event to grow, while remaining in a central location based in the thriving city of Birmingham. Over the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October BPM will descend on Birmingham for what promises to be the biggest and best event so far.

The NEC offers unparalleled transport links, including an on-site airport and train station, making BPM even more accessible for visitors travelling from across the UK, throughout Europe and beyond. The venue also offers excellent visitor facilities including a range of restaurants and catering outlets including well known brands such as Subway & Wetherspoons. There are also five hotels situated on the NEC site, making it even easier to make a weekend of your visit to BPM.

If you attended BPM in 2008, the organisers would like to know what you thought of the event so that your views can be taken into consideration during the planning of this year's BPM.

The BPM 2008 feedback questionnaire will only take a few minutes to complete and, as an added incentive, everyone who completes the short online form before 5pm on Monday 9th February will be included in a prize draw to win a complete Citronic mixing system. The prize package is made up of a CDMX:2 CD/MP3 player with built-in mixer and amp, a pair of HP300PRO headphones, a MP400PRO mic and a 19" rack flightcase.

No. Just wondered who was going this year?

I was asked yesterday if DJ@ would be attending BPM this year. BPM may have relocated (and possibly expanded) in the larger NEC, Birmingham, but can it be really justified why hundreds of pounds of money should be spent on an exhibition stand, or expenses claimed on a basic three star hotel from £49.00 a night!
Such events are obviously advantageous for the likes of an equipment manufacturer or retailer to exhibit.
Chapter based associations may direct their funding towards an exhibition stand and expenses, but DJ@ member funds are better directed towards membership benefits.
vokf
I won't be going, although for those exhibiting, I guess its a bit of a Jolly :-)
I've attended exhibitions for various day jobs, and the surrounding areas are busy with people getting fed on expenses. Damm good fun, if you can stand the boring bits during the day! lol

Non-profit DJ Associations can't do this can they? It wouldn't make sense for them to attend an industry event and pay full rate for the stand and for their leaders hotel, food and travelling costs.

I'm sure my local DJ store won't be going - and they ARE a "for profit" company, so if they can't justify the expense, I'll be surprised if any DJ Associations are able to justify attending.
Dukesy
Indeed. I can see no need to spend £££'s on what amounts to a stand and spending money for the privilege, but hey, if other non-profit organisations choose to be a 'brand', fine by me.

On the one hand, I believe that whilst company's may attend association chapters which can be considered small scale events, although considered a positive step for the 'mobile DJ', smaller events throughout the year have already proven to dilute the support and success of 'larger events'.

On the other hand, participation for larger events in the next few years will be interesting to see, especially due to the impact of the global crisis. I too can't really see how companies are willingly forking-out more £££'s for stands at larger events such as this, therefore the smaller scaled chapter meets may actually look promising in the future... smile.gif

There are lots of examples of forecasts and surveys doing the rounds. Here's one from a trade Expo news circular received recently:

QUOTE
How are companies exhibiting in trade shows?
Due to the global crisis, many companies tend to reduce their participations in Trade Shows.

A highly questionable fact! Is it only short-term savings, due to budgetary pressure related to decrease in orders, or that companies are changing their strategy according to in-depth evolutions such as increase of new on-line marketing tools, pressure of sustainable Development, lack of commercial benefits in trade shows...?

To be fair, if I was free, I would like to attend BPM as an individual. Attended the first one a couple of years ago. Very good, the size of the event then was just right IMO.

Well I really enjoyed it. Went both days, met loads of great people, went to four seminars, learnt new stuff and remembered stuff I'd forgotten. I'll be there next year.

Wot no piccy's?
Unlke the first year of 'sparkle', from others feedback about this years show at the bigger NEC... seems to have gone a bit, errr, dim?!
Not sure if next years show will be at the NEC but hopefully, will bounce back and be really great with lots of positive feedback. It is, after all, aimed at mobile DJs.
