Hi Does anyone know what has happened to The British DJ Organisation?

Their web site has dissappeared, I was going to apply for membership as it looked quite good and you got 1 million PLI with the membership.

If anyone knows if the organisation has broken up or is still going strong can they let me know.

Thanks

Dicky

sorry - never heard of it!

Take my advice join the TVDJA for the organisation and the Musicians Union for the PLI (£10M).

In my opinion, the British DJ Organisation was the embarrassing little brother of the other DJ Associations, I was never a member, but you hear things and draw your own conclusions. rolleyes.gif

Well i'm not sharing gossip publically in case it is just rumour, and I haven't been a member of the organisation so I can't comment on their professionalism or conduct personally so it wouldn't be fair to make assumptions, maybe they just suffered from member apathy and closed their doors?, why not do a WHOIS lookup of their domain name, obtain the email address from the register, and contact them for an answer.

Or maybe Mikeee knows something?

I knew of there excistance, but that was about it. There PLI, from my information was from the India Ins Co, but I could never find them. All links that I found went to "This Page Can Not Be Displayed".

If anyone was a member, and want to talk to me, i can be contacted on 01 252 320 740 or 01 252 330 297.

I see a common theme appearing here, in which most D.J's have either never been a member of them, or have never even heard of them! (Maybe the reason why they have vanished). I would, however, be very suspicious of any UK organisation obtaining insurance from abroad!, since this tends not to work when claims appear excl.gif .

I would take their lack of members, and their disappearing act, together with Mike's post on where they alledgedy obtained their PLI from as a bit of a Warning and that you may have had a narrow escape.

Mike is obviously biased to the TVDJA since he represents them here on DJU, however I have no affilation with them myself, but can still highly recommend them. The majority of existing D.J's here are either members, or have at least heard of the TVDJA, they have been around for years!, they don't promise anything thay can't deliver, and they even had a Stand at the PLASA.

I've also met Mike, so I know that he isn't just a name on a website.

The TVDJA works hard representing the DJ as far as they can, and they have a lot of respect, further more they are in the process of changing their name to make them more welcoming to the non Thames Valley based D.J's (they DO accept members from all over the UK!).

In other words, spend your money on membership with them smile.gif

Chris, only joking!!! didnt expect you to slander any organisation on here! Just wondered if there was anything slighly suspicious...their insurance scheme obtained from abroad wouldn't attract me to become a member...

Incidently Ive never really looked into joinging any form of dj organisation ill go have a look the tvdja site.

The TVDJA is your best bet, if you wish to Join an organisation, there is nothing dodgy about them (Apart from Mike's Suits!), and they welcome new members from all over the UK, whether you are new to the business or have many years experience - all are welcome to join.

Mike spends a lot of time helping people here on DJU, and I think that in itself shows a lot of personal dedication to the industry he, and the TVDJA represents, which is why I have no hesitation in recommending them, I've also yet to hear a bad word said about them.

The TVDJA website can be found HERE

Also consider membership with the Musicians Union, there has been some doubt about whether they accept membership from D.J's, but I can pesonally confirm that they do. The Musicians union offers a lot of membership benefits such as legal advice, Contract & Agency Advice and more interestingly cover of £10m Public Liability insurance included in the membership fee. Membership fee's are tiered depending on what your yearly (DJ) income is, although this is going to be scrapped in the New Year, and a different fee structure implemented. At the moment I would anticipate that most D.J's would currently pay around £78 - £150 per year to join. Students in full time education can get the same cover for £33 a year if paid by direct debit!.

The Musicians Union Website can be found HERE

Being a member of a professional organisation looks good to your clients, whether you state the fact on your literature or website, since it shows dedication, increases your professionalism and does wonders at giving peace of mind, and can often pay for the original membership fee five times over smile.gif in increased business and peace of mind.

Personally given the option of joining DJU / Musicians Union or advertising in the Yellow Pages, then the membership would be given the first priority. Personally I chose the M.U, but this was purely a personal decision and in no way a reflection of the TVDJA.

Thank you Chris,

Just so that evebody knows what is going on. Since PLASA we have been taking on members from all over the UK. And as I posted elsewhere, as of March 2004 (our AGM) The TVDJA will cease and will be replaced be the National Association of Disc Jockeys, This is to reflect our national presence. I reckon it will take about two years for us as an association, to be able to have a resonable amount of "clout" on the industry - but I'm working on it.

As this forum proves, more members, more information, more clout.
