One of the last arguments that "Vinyl forever" vinyl junkie DJ's cling to, when its explained to them that DJ'ing doesnt have to mean vinyl (and more and more these days, doesnt), is the old grumble of "some of the tracks I want, can only be had on vinyl".

Whilst there are several good, and 100% totally legal places to download commercial, and non-current dance music from (EG: HMV Downloads, Wippet, Woolworths on-line), upfront music has previously been not quite so easy to find, until you email the record company direct, and order it on CD or MP3.

Well, point any such vinyl die-hards in the direction of this article on Radio 1's website currently.

A new, legal online download website devoted to dance music has been launched.

Trax2burn.com allows DJs and music fans from all over the world to download a single track, an album or an entire label catalogue online.

PC and Mac owners can use the service, which claims to cost a fraction of the price of CDs and vinyl. For DJs, trax2burn will also act as an up-to-the-minute online promotional company.

Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records and Darren Emerson's Underwater Records are the first to sign their labels' back catalogues up to the site. More labels will be added to the service from January 2004.

"It's really a case of 'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!' so now Southern Fried tracks are available to everyone on-line. As I once said: 'More of everything for everyone!'"

Visit www.trax2burn.com for more information.

Whilst Trax2burn may only be offering the music from a small selection of artists currently, that can easily be expanded - The all important decision to offer such a service, and get it off the ground, and on-line, is by far, the more important factor here. Someone, somewhere has realised that such a service is in demand, and can succeed. Even mentioning "burn" in the title of the website/service is refreshing.

The interesting twist to all this thankfully increasing supply of LEGAL music downloading, which will be a blessing to CD and Laptop DJ's alike, is that should the appropriate government organisation come knocking on your lightscreens to look at your CD-R's, they're not gonna know, there and then, which tracks they can "have" you for, or not. Its no longer a case of CD-R's or MP3's are ALL, instantly illegal.

With free (short) previews, dowloadable tracks at just 99p, and full albums at £5.99, things definately seem to be heading in a more sensible direction, than the record company/government technophobes would have liked things to have gone , even just a year ago.
